Making AppleTV work with an old TV

I have a Sony flatscreen TV: KLV-26HG2 LCD WEGA Color TV. It is a couple of years old. I would like to use Apple TV with it, but the Sony lacks the HDMI port that I need. Is there some sort of device that I could plug into the Sony that would have the HDMI port on the other end, so that I could then plug that into the Apple TV?

Snail trails on Garmin Nuvi 255W

Snail trails on Garmin Nuvi 255W. When out and about this device is now making pale blue 'snail trails' on the map tracking the car from A to B. It is working as it should otherwise. Does this mean that the device is on its way out? I checked some forums but could find any mention of this bizarre behavior.

Techie Birthday Present

My wife's birthday is coming up in early September and I need help finding a birthday present Fast as I'm going to be tied up the next couple weeks. She likes "toys" like remote control cars, helicopters, preferably that she can build herself. I got her a helicopter last year and a remote controlled car kit already so those ideas are out. She has a basic arduino kit and is always looking for a new project. She also likes cool gadgets for cooking, grilling. And she's into all kinds of music. She has an iPod, iPad, a Mac, a PC (several, actually). I'd like to keep it under $150 if possible. Your ideas would be most appreciated!

No seriously, a large print Arduino would be great...

Back in the days of yore, my (almost) 77 year old father was quite the geek and maker, but never a programmer. Fast- forward to today and he can no longer work on big building projects and spends much of his time with his iPad and TV. We've been discussing what kinds of "doing" projects he'd like to work on, but the obvious contender of an Arduino is maybe a little difficult as I'm not in Australia to help him out with the programming side of things. Help Me H4x0r My Xmas Lights?

The circuit box resets itself (to a new annoying setting) each time the lights are unplugged or when it shorts out in the rain, and I also suspect the box is the product's "built-in expectancy" (since otherwise LEDs might last too long to be profitable.
