I'm looking for urban cuts that sound like Mia's "Ten Dollar". Bass-heavy, utterly debaucherous, with a style that isn't necessarily "American" sounding. Are there any afficionados out there can help me with this search?

I'm looking for a sample pack of all of the words/letters/numbers/phonemes from a Speak n' Spell (and/or derivatives). I'm not looking for crazy circuit bent samples... just something I can piece together words/phrases out of. Surely someone has done this. [more inside]

Daughter (age six) perhaps to begin piano lessons. Considering a weighted response electronic keyboard as a piano substitute. Seeking advice in brands, models, retailers, price, durability, and indeed, overall wisdom of this route over standard piano. All views even slightly extraneous welcome. Thanks in advance. I have been assembling some simple test equipment that involves mating an Omron digital readout to an Omron 0-5VDC pressure transducer. I have been seeing erratic zero fluctuation that appears to coincide with switching the power on and off. My background is electrical, not electronic. I suspect that there could be a voltage spike occurring when the on/off switch is used. The switch is a good quality industrial double pole rocker switch with internal illumination. I want to eliminate possible switch caused spikes as a variable in trying to figure out if anything external is causing this wandering zero. I am familiar with switches that will control spiking in an electrical circuit but not with more sensitive electronics. What type of switch do I look for in my (Digikey) catalog?

Right now, what are some good places -- in addition to ebay & Craigslist -- to sell used tech gear (such as old PowerBooks and any other excellent-condition but old stuff)?

I'm looking for a box/cupboard/whatever that can store all my household electronic bits and bobs (ipods, moblie phones, PDA, digital camera etc) in one place without them, the cables and the accessories getting tangled up. I've thought those junk drawer organisers with lots of different sized compartments might work, but they're not big enough and I'd prefer something stand alone. Something that could accommodate a multi-plug socket and hide all the cables would be even better. Any ideas?

I boght a 40GB Ipod back in the day when they were relatively new and, as such, I payed full whack. It broke down during warranty and I was issued with a new Ipod and now the new Ipod has broken down outside of warranty. I was gobsmacked to discover that Apple require ~£160 merely to look at the Ipod without guaranteeing the fixing of it. All this has led me to ask the question, are consumable electronics of this nature designed to have a short shelf life with the cost of fixture used to make you purchase the next generation? Am I wrong to feel agrieved at this? [more inside]

There’s a long tradition of telling a story, say, around a campfire, or to a group of friends in a bar, and based on the feedback you get, changing the story to suit or entertain your audience.
Today, the web gives everyone the ability to tell a story and receive feedback from a much wider audience than was previously possible. Two examples I can think of are the blogging phenomenon and Shelley Jackson’s hypertext writings.
I’m looking for traditional/historical examples and sources as well as
as well as online equivalents?

I'm a freelance web developer, and I've recently set up a PayPal business-level account to take payment from clients who prefer that method. But I'm growing more and more upset with the fact that it inevitably takes about a week from the day I get the notice of pending payment for the money to actually show up in my PayPal account, and another 4-5 days to get it out and into my bank account. What's the holdup? [more inside]

A recently purchased iBook comes with Zinio
, an application that allows for the onscreen reading of print magazines. I like the concept, and the interface is decent, but their selection is paltry and it all seems a bit too pricey. Still, I might be willing to give it a go. Does anyone use the service regularly? What do you think of it? Is there a comparable service out there that might be better? [more inside]

In trance/techno music, where does the following pattern come from: A major bass hit on the first beat of the measure, then doubling to the first and third beat a couple measures later, then every beat, then eighth notes, sixteenth notes - usually accompanied by a melodic glissando climbing octaves or a vocal loop stuttering - until it releases (usually to a short pause) and then plunges into the full bass loop (and usually the chorus). Where'd this come from? What/who was the first song or DJ to use it?
