I can never come up with a title.

I've been given the opportunity to write a weekly tech/computer/electronics column for my local paper and although I have plenty of column ideas I can't for the life of me come up with a name for it. So I'm asking the Hive Mind: what should I call it? More details inside. [more inside]

Does electronic rustproofing work?

Do you have any experience with using consumer-grade electronic rustproofing for your vehicle? Does it work? Do the units last? I’m particularly interested in any feedback with respect to the CounterAct electronic rustproofing unit. (By way of background, I’m trying to compare the CounterAct with Krown spray-on rustproofing.)

Three Months in Birmingham

On Friday I'm going to Birmingham (Sutton Coldfield) for three months (until early may) for an engineering internship. What should I know? What's the Birmingham area known for amongst Britons? What should I absolutely not miss in my down time? What social norms (at work or otherwise) might be unusual to me? What do locals do for fun? What parts of the city should I wander around in to get a sense of the place (and in which areas would doing so get me killed or served with an anti-social order)? [more inside]

Live bass guitar looping - how DID he do it?

A little while back I heard a bass guitar player with some kind of amazing live looping set-up - what on earth was it? I keep wondering what he was doing. All I could see was that he was grabbing (sampling) things he was playing, as he was playing them (ie while he was continuing to play), using foot pedals of some sort, and then incorporating those loops into the rest of the track. Amazing. But how?

Old guy walks into a bar...

Is there a way to track a human being electronically for their own safety and not entirely with the person's consent? I'm asking this for a friend whose father has mild alzheimer's and wanders off. I'm not really asking if it's moral to do this but if you feel the need to give your opinion on that, knock yourself out. I want to know if there is a technology that will allow her to track her father's movements electronically, not through a cell phone or a bracelet or implanting something under his skin. If it matters, this is in New York City.

Dance Music By People Who Hate Dance Music

I recently rediscovered the song "Man, It's So Loud In Here" by They Might Be Giants, and the delicious juxtaposition of the New Order/Pet Shop Boys pastiche of the music and the sardonic treatment of club culture in the lyrics leads me to my question: What are some other songs that sound like typical dance music but which have lyrics that are critical of dance music or club culture in general?
