A few years ago I gave my sister BT's This Binary Universe. I guess it stuck with her, because now she's asked me for similar instrumental music, but it's far enough outside my usual listening that I'm completely stuck. Help? [more inside]

I'd like to replicate the electronic beat heard in this song so that I can cover the song on guitar and record the drums as a separate track. What's the best way to get sounds like these ones live or as a computer generated track? And by extension what are the general principles and tools for those who wish to create electronic beats?
Klaus Schulze vs Jean Michel Jarre - so why is Jarre well known? My question is why Schulze has more than 40 albums to his name (according to the web) or many more than Jarre at least, but is still the lesser known of the two. I only discovered Schulze recently, but I love his music so far from several different albums. I guess this is a question on musical history. [more inside]
Need music to keep me going at the gym. The caveat is that it isn't mindless pop music, but something with some complexity. [more inside]

Long story short - diagnosed with ADHD, went on Adderall, changed my life, and I've found that I'm particularly productive if listening to non-lyrical, somewhat unpredictable/atonal music in my headphones. My go-to web streams are Soma.FM's Space Station Soma and Deep Space One, but both of these stations often feature music with vocal interludes or samples. These distract me a bit, as well as making me laugh, because the interludes are often quite hilariously stereotypical (reminiscent of Strong Bad's electronic classic "The System Is Down"). So basically, I'm looking for web streams of spacey music without vocals. Any ideas?
My seven-year-old son won a cheap-and-basic MP3 player at a charity tombola. Since then he's been pointing out tunes that he'd like to carry around. I need to find some more! [more inside]

Looking for more ethereal electronic (is that even what the kids call it these days?) music with a certain feeling to it - sort of happy, sort of sad, slightly otherworldly, all blending to create a dreamy, transcendant feeling. [more inside]
Hello, I'm trying to get a playlist for my hubbie for him to code to - ideally electronica, drum and bass, EDM or even modern classical like Arvo Part. Only caveat is that there must be no lyrics - I'd love to hear your favourite picks! I've got a bunch up already at blip for him - he listens to my radio station there - user name - emilybear - to give you an idea of what I've got there currently but I need more, so much more as there's a whole lot of coding to be done. Thanks!

I don't know much about electronic music. I know I like the deep, twisting, inertial sounds and rhythms of stereotypical dubstep. But whenever I go through "best album"-type lists of dubstep albums, almost all of them are more subdued. That's not to say I don't like them -- the oft-recommended London Zoo and Untrue now have a permanent spot in my music rotation -- but they just don't have that intense WUB WUB WUB feel. Here's a good example of what I'm looking for. What are some great albums with music in this style?

Help me find electronic music that sounds like machines. Some examples are Diamond Catalog, SPK, and Nate Young. Boards of Canada also comes very close. Unsettling but not aggressive (e.g. not Big Black). Chaotic but not out of control (e.g. not Merzbow's Merzbeat or Pulse Demon). Thanks!
I'd love your recommendations for some upbeat, happy, dance/electronic music (probably from Europe), based on a couple of tracks inside. [more inside]

I'm a drummer in an indie-rock band with a 5-piece kit who is looking to expand my setup to include a drum sampling pad. I want something that has unique percussion sounds (not just cheesy electronic beats), built-in effects, plenty of storage space to upload my own samples, and the ability to record and loop live drumbeats. Any advice? [more inside]

What was that music webapp I had on my iPod? Help me remember the site I had saved to my homescreen a while ago. I'm fairly sure it was a webapp and not a proper app. I seem to remember the name for the icon was shortened to a two-letter acronym; I thought it was DI for digitalinspiration.com but googling that shows I was wrong. I'll try to describe it anyway: the app had a series of square, colourful icons down the left-hand side, not unlike the style to the iTunes gift card drawings. Each icon represented a category; I definately remember 'lounge', and the others were mostly dance/electronic music related genres like house, groove etc. probably hip-hop stuff too. Definately a cool and groovy site.

What's the bass & drum style of Flight of the Conchords Sugalumps, particularly 9th through 15th second of the video, called? Rhapsody's genres has something called Electro-Funk which includes artists like the Bass Mekanik that include test tones on some albums and Bass Transmission. I'm particularly interested in the sustained low low bass "notes," particularly when combined with higher percussion (snare) in a really danceable, but somewhat slow tempo.
