many programs and devices have a function that slows down or speeds up audio without changing the pitch.
my rockheaded layman's theory on illustrating how this must be done is that it divides the whole audio track into something like audio pixels that are so short that they can be shortened without actually removing any of the details that you're hearing--
it's just you're hearing every small detail for less of an amount of time (likewise with slower speed, it lengthens the amount of time that you hear every of those little "audio pixels" so that it is twice as slow). [more inside]

Is there an automated (or "simple") way to undo iPhoto effects? Some look difficult, but the "pop art" effect in particular looks like if should be fairly easy to get something like the original image back.

I want to recreate, as closely as possible, the Busby Berkeley effect where the faces go all kaleidoscopic and hazy, like in 42nd street. Here is a still.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to do this, via plugin, or motion paths? Also, for extra credit, how did they do this in the 1930's?
I use After Effects and Premiere.

What's up with that annoying fast-motion digital effect that's been popping up in movies the past few years? I think it's supposed to make things look scary, but it really has the effect of making everything look like a bad Benny Hill comedy.
Is this something that directors do to their movies on purpose, or is it a byproduct of some sort of digital processing? [more inside]

GuitarGearFilter: I'm a semi-skilled guitarist looking to add pedals and effects to my rig. I like the idea of those several-pedals-in-one processor thingies, but I'm baffled by the array of stuff out there and a bit wary of the opinions of the possibly-commissioned staff of the local music store. Flash masking effects: I'm trying to duplicate the flash slideshow photo transition at http://www.247consult.com/
(minus the menu). I've found a file on istockphoto
that's close, but very difficult for me to customize to my own photo dimensions. I've yet to find a decent tutorial on masks much less one that creates the nifty "box" effect. Furthermore, I don't know what this type of mask is generally referred to....Ideas?

What is the effect on Steve Hackett's guitar solo on the live version of Counting Out Time? It's definitely weird pitchy and I'm boggled as to what it is...My first thought was a Mutron Biphase, but I after listening to it a few times I don't think so...If any early Genesis/Steve Hackett fans can help, much thanks!

How did Kubrick film the psychedelic 'stargate' sequence of "2001: A Space Odyssey"? Some of the movie's special effects are obviously crude CGI (like the cockpit displays during spacecraft rendezvous) but the ending seems far more sophisticated. Regular old animation? Looks too... digital. Articles on 'the making of' I've seen never discuss this all-important visual (although it's cool knowing about the spinning set used for example in the jogging scene).
