What are the coolest, most interesting, and least consumerist activities, websites, and other digital/virtual things that I can introduce this kid to? What did you like to do with computers / the internet when you were that age?

I'm very interested in world religions. I have picked up a few titles but I find them extremely difficult I am hoping people here can recommend some starter titles. I am a masters degree educator. I know very little on this subject and I seem to get it twisted quickly. Please recommend titles to start reading to build upon.

What are some good resources to learn about the property and casualty insurance industry? Looking for some online (free) or written (books I can get from the library) that can give me some basic, conversational understanding around terms, systems, process flows, etc. Current level of knowledge: familiar with terms, but not comfortable speaking about them.

My wife is the director of an after school program that serves low income minority youth in grades 3 through 12. She is looking for practical tips to share with direct service staff around positive support of youth, program structures that work, behavior management, and incentives. What resources might you recommend (web or print)? What suggestions do you have as to what's successful or ways to assist in training and supporting staff within programming. Thanks.

I am a high school science teacher teaching five classes in three classrooms and my desk is in a fourth. I'd love to cut down on the amount of paper I have to schlep from room to room. Is there an iPad app available that would let me take attendance (and set absent as the default) and record hall passes, discipline, and parental contact?

I'm interested in how effective edutainment (specifically using games for learning) is, and especially interested in critical articles or books about edutainment as an industry. Much of the stuff that I read is very positive about educational gaming, but I have a gut feeling that there has to be a negative perspective as well. Can anyone recommend resources that deal with this?

Is there any software (online or Mac) that will help me to make clean, simple custom maps for a classroom? Ideally, I'd start with a simple, blank outline map, then be able to add features one at a time. (For example, perhaps I'd select "Ohio River" from a dropdown menu, and then it would appear on the map.)

I am the chair of a high school math department in the Chicagoland area (north of Chicago). Our school population is 7% black. Our teacher population is 0% black. I'd like very much to hire a top-notch black math teacher. This teacher would round out our school in many ways, not the least of which being acting as a role model to the 7% of our students. I have tried working through the NAACP, the NABSE, and local college job fairs. So far I have come up with nothing. Any suggestions for what I should do to get more resumes from black high school math teachers?
