Using ten days to prepare for an online course, then acing it?

I’m about to start a six-month-long online course that I'd like to do really well on. The next ten days are very quiet at work. How can I use this time to help myself prepare, given that I’ll need to be in the office for part of each of the ten days...and then keep up with the course while going back to full-time teaching? Possible to compbine babysitting and music lesson? how to find teacher?

I am a mother of 3 kids, age 2,4,10. I need babysitter to take care of my kids for 1-2 hours during the weekend, so that I can run other errands. But it seems that babysitters typically look for more work (money) than 1-2hrs ($30)/job (with typical rate of $15/hr). I am willing to pay $30 to $60 per hour if the babysitter can teach the kids music, dance, gym, drawing or other arts and can involve all three of my kids. [more inside]

Make my child a math genius

My son is now 15 months old, and I would like for him to have the best possible mathematics education. What should I be doing now and what sort of long-term plan should I have in order to help him both to learn and to love mathematics? Best Educational Videos?

Hi all, I am developing online educational videos (teaching ppl how to use software) and I would love to learn about any good examples that you have seen. I have definitely watched a bunch from Khan Academy, and love their style of short and engaging videos. Are there other examples you have seen that have been engaging and instructive? Many instructional videos that I have seen that have good content are boring and wouldn't hold someone's attention very long. Thank you for your help!

Online Math Tutor

I'm a college student who is having some issues really understanding Calculus II, which is a problem as A) I am a Comp Sci major, and B) I need to take Calc III as well, and an advanced math elective as well. I've not heard good things about the school provided tutors, (IE, one is not too skilled at math, and the other is really smug and poor pedagogically) and while I could get a private tutor to help me, I was wondering if there are any good resources for online math tutors, like there are for online language tutoring over Skype. Does a directory of such tutors exist, has anyone had a good experience doing this (maybe even with names?), and how much can I expect to pay? [more inside]

Would you teach a really old but really good textbook?

I've already taught this college course on media literacy for one semester, with results that frustrated me (here's my postmortem of my syllabus, including what students did and didn't get). Specifically, my students don't seem to understand how advertising influences the content of the media. I've been trying to remember where it was I developed the foundational ideas I have on the subject... and I realized, they're in a textbook I read in high school. In 1991. In a book which had its last edition that year. [more inside]

Best way to learn French in my spare time?

Hi everyone, I am a 24 y/o English native about to start a PhD in London. During the next 3 years, I would very much like to begin learning French alongside my doctoral studies, and I am interested in finding out the most effective and efficient way of going about this. Realistically I will probably be able and willing to dedicate between one and two hours a day to studying French. I am interested in learning to both speak and write the language in equal measure. Any advice is much appreciated.
