I am looking for people's experiences of demonstrating the basics of how a clinical trial works to the lay person. My audience will be pretty broad - from school children to adults - so I will need to keep it pretty sort and simple. I need something I can use when visiting schools to big events - I have heard of people using cake and chocolate to demonstrate randomisation/placebo etc - has anyone on here done that and have any pointers? TIA!

I have a very strong background in humanities but I've completed three-year undergraduate course in math. Though I passed it without trouble, I feel like traditional textbooks didn't teach make me
understand a lot. What are best math resources (books, but not necessarily) that instead of
trying to look like PM read more like literature or work on your intuition and talk about big picture implications instead? Something like
Godel, Escher, Bach for various areas of mathematics.

Looking for an awesome primer on genetics! It should start somewhere around the highschool level, and continue through to some college-level material. Bonus points if it touches on some recent developments and research. Oh! And readability is key.

Science Explanation needed: Trying to get a better understanding of 'temperature'. While discussing whether it's safe to eat from a non-stick pan I pointed out that Teflon doesn't start to break down until it hits around 300 degrees; if you kept the pan temp lower than that it should be fine. I was told that I'm wrong because 'temperature doesn't work that way'.

I am looking for cross-disciplinary graduate/phd course in web technology. More specifically, relating to societal use of web from a global perspective. My goal is to become an expert in use of web based technologies in developing countries (which involves computer use, censorship, etc.). So far, what I have found is STS (science, technology and society) which sounds perfect, but from what I have seen, tend to be more in the areas of applied sciences and engineering. Then there is basic CS programs which tend to be more technology than societal aspects. Does anyone have any thoughts, ideas, recommendations?
