I'm thinking about trying to get into tutoring, particularly English tutoring. I've worked with ESL students via the internet before, but that has been on a mutual basis: I've helped them improve their English while they helped me improve my German. What steps would I need to take to get started in my area? Do I need any particular qualifications? Should I go to the schools, or perhaps to the University in town? How does one get started in tutoring as a part-time job?

I'm over 30 and probably know as much or less about history, politics/ gov, and current events as my 7 year old niece. Now, I want to be aware and don't know where to begin. I've tried just "merging in" but the references, terms, and names are lost on me. I need a starting point that will give me a framework or bird's eye view to start from and build on. [more inside]

I'm interested in an M.A. degree in education, specifically in curriculum design for on-line/distance learning. Here's an example from Univ. of Maryland (M.A. in Distance Learning) . Has anyone pursued this degree? If so, did you do your coursework in person or on-line? Is the job market good? Which institutions are most respected in their programs? Any info appreciated.

I would like to enroll in a MBA in a good school in the US or UK, but I can't really stop working for a couple of years right now. And since I live in Brazil, nighttime courses are not really an option. So I am seriously considering an Online Distance-education MBA. Several schools offer this and I am a little lost with the huge offer. Any experiences or recommendations to share?

Macroeconomics: The various economics-related threads have me curious, about the complex machinations that sustain the global economy. What good non-textbook-style literature is out there that introduces the various cogs and gears? I'm not math-averse, but for the sake of inclusion, both mathless & math-heavy recommendations are solicited. I've tried reading formal textbooks, but found them too 'textbooky' and seemingly bereft of discussion of real-world dynamics.

After recently getting the opera and pop-era bug and finding that I can sound half-decent singing it, I really want to learn Italian so I don't have to phonetically remember the lyrcis of the likes of "O sole mio". Any resources to help me do this cheap (on the Web preferably)? $100 or less?

I am taking a brain-painful networking class (hint: it's all about the routers, baby!) and the studying is intense. It's hard, but I'm holding my own. I see questions here on AskMe that bring really cool answers from lots of folks, with a lot of repeat answerers, which leads me to ask, How Did You Learn What You Know About Computers/the Internet? Was it in school? Did you apprentice with someone who had m4d sk1lz? Did you teach yourself? Other?

Is it possible for someone to improve their handwriting later in life, say at the age of 40? Do you have any tales of inspiration or warning?

I mostly print, and would like to teach myself to print more neatly, something like the font Comic Sans.

I suppose the broader question I'm asking is if its possible to acquire any number of skills (playing piano, drawing) later in life. Not sure why this appeals to me, perhaps it's a midlife crisis avoidance ritual or something.

I work with a group of people that develop museum exhibits and I've spent a lot of time thinking about unusual interfaces and compelling non-traditional experiences. I've been deep in this for some time, but would be interested in the views of people not quite so close to the field. So, a few questions:

1.What and where are some of the most compelling museum experiences you've had and why, online or in real life (ideally using tech in a surprising or particularly effective way, but I'm interested in the core of any great museum experience)?

2.Given your druthers, what sort of interaction would you like to have with a museum that you're not getting?

3.What conferences or shows might I attend to be exposed to stuff of which I'm not already aware, in the US or internationally. (Obvious ones are the annual meetings of AAM, ASTC, SIGGRAPH, SIGCHI, Ars Electronica)

4.What universities are doing compelling research and application in creating compelling interfaces and experiences that can work in a museum environment (such as the MIT Media Lab or Fraunhofer Institut)?

5. What companies or design firms execute this sort of stuff like no other (such as Second Story Interactive)?

Thanks.
