I'm looking for a good cross-browser web-based text editor simliar to google docs but with a focus on text rather than RTF or ODF. Something like a server-based TextWrangler or Emacs. Some of the things I want include: [more inside]

A co-worker of mine is the librarian at the publishing house where I work. She found some librarian "career girl" novels on the net and showed them to me for a laugh. I suggested she take a cover image to a T-shirt shop and have a shirt made. She loved the idea and is going to do it with this image, and put the hilarious excerpt from the book on the back. Now I'm jealous and want a similar shirt that relates to my job. I'm an editor. I doubt they had "career girl" pulp novels about editing back in the day, so what equally cool/kitschy images could I put on my front that relate to editing?

I have to send a manuscript in the be edited and they've asked me to mark all italicized words with an underline and all bolded words with a wavy underline. I've never sent in an ms before so I am unsure how to go about doing this. Is it possible to format a document like this in MS Word? If not, is there another program I should be using? [more inside]

After reading this fascinating thread, I'm curious: How many published authors are among our number? I'd love to see who's here and what kinds of books you've written.

I remember seeing something, somewhere, that allowed non HTML savvy people to add a basic markup to text. This text is then parsed into valid HMTL by a javascript or PHP (perhaps) script. I can't refind it. Can you?

Apropos of Matt checking out FCKEditor, and the typical Mac experience of non-functionality, are there any decent WYSIWYG web editors out there that work with Safari? I'm talking about true formatting a CEO can deal with, not a button that subs in the HTML tags for you. [more inside]

If I wanted to get a hypothetical product, created by a hypothetical design studio, in front of a non-hypothetical audience of professional and amateur video editors, how would you suggest I reach them? I have found a short-list of forums and how-to sites but feel I must be missing some other resources and/or online communities. Thnx.

What do people use for a cheap or free programmer's text editor on OS X? I know that BBEdit rules the school, but I'm loath to spend that much money when I'm (almost) happy with vim. I do web programming so I'm mostly working with PHP/Perl/Python/XHTML/CSS, but I'd like a program that could handle heavier work if I decided to move in that direction. Is there an OS X equivalent of Textpad, both in features and price?
