I am video editor who cuts a lot of promo material. Sometimes I have to take a song and cut it down to a specific amount of time (say 30 seconds), while making sure the song does lose its beat or right order of cords. Is there a way to learn music timing, keeping a beat, cords, etc. for those who are not musically inclined? FYI I have never played an instrument.

I need a recommendation for an instructional book on putting together a memoir. I already have a good portion of it written. The area I need help with is what to do with the various experiences that I've written about. Right now it's a bunch of stories with a central theme. I need to pull it together and make it a book in other words.

I'd like to set up a handful of posts (or pages, it really doesn't matter) to be editable by specific people. If I have 10 posts, I want to allow 10 different people to each edit "their" page. They should not be able to do anything else, meaning no editing of other pages, no creation of new pages, no deleting their page. Just a login directing them to the edit form of their page.
I can't find any sort of plugin to do this. Do you know of one?
In the absence of a plugin, any other ideas on how to accomplish this?

Challenging Video Editing question: If I wanted to take video from a multiple number of different sources (off DVD's or maybe Blue-Ray) and produce a single video from those sources (say each video has its own quarter of the screen), which editing tool(s) would be best to perform these tasks? Software must be PC.
By best, I mean:
* relatively simple to learn,
* open source, or relatively inexpensive
* produces good quality, quad-screen videos in high enough resolution to look good on typical home televisions, not just computer screens.
*Makes it easy to add your own music tracks or soundtrack, or it can use audio from any of the 4 videos as well, preferably both.

I have Final Cut Studio 2. I've been asked by my mom to assemble a small edit of all the videos shot on point-and-shoot still cameras during our family vacation this year. When I try bringing the files directly into FCP, it's buggy / i can't edit without problems. I assume there's some conversion I need to do before bringing them in but nothing seems to work.

I recorded it using the web cam on my HP Touchsmart PC and the playback makes a distorted, squelch sound every time there is a loud part in the video. What's the best way to keep the original soundtrack, but remove the feedback noise? Also, is there a way to adjust the recording levels to improve audio on future projects?

I looked around and didn't see anything that asked this question. I respect this community and thought it could help, as I feel overwhelmed. I am looking for a desktop PC that will help me edit my home movies. I have Sony Vegas 8 and a HV20 HDV video recorder, both high end stuff. My current PC does not seem to be able to handle the heavy lifting of editing and storing. I have 1200 dollars to spend, and I am not sure what media center type PC works best for what I want to do. Googling the net just gives me varied opinions from thinly disguised salesmen. Thanks for any help or advice.

I am using GIMP and having the simplest difficult just cutting out an object (such as a briefcase). I want to cut object out and then place them in a different image....I can simply drag an entire layer to a new image but really need to know how to image-edit....I don't really know how to do it. I resorted to making a layer below and trying to erase around the object and that didn't work. I know how to do it in Photoshop but no longer have access to it in my office. If it matters I am on an IMac. I am kinda embarassed that I cannot figure out such a simple yet important procedure. Any help? Thanks so much for your input and time!
