We're trying to set up a collaboration on a textbook-like document, but we're not sure what formatting system to use. Considering LaTeX, but would appreciate some perspectives on how to make it easy for people to make contributions.

After searching and coming up empty, does anyone know the best method and software for editing video into a four way split screen?
I admit I am just starting to get my feet wet to editing so if it will be tricky thanks for the pre warning.
Could it be done in Premiere Pro 5? Also might have access to Final Cut Pro if it calls for it.

Back in the '90s there used to be a "music video" style recording mode on Sony camcorders that created a low frame-rate, slightly blurred or dreamy look - perhaps something to do with using fewer frames per second and blending the intermediary frames. Does anyone remember this and know how to recreate that look in post-production, e.g. using final cut pro, etc.?

My sister needs to make YouTube videos for her business. The camera outputs MP4 files. Needs the ability to edit and add beginning and ending slides. Output should be uploadable to YouTube. Currently using VideoPad (on Vista) which keeps outputting video with out-of-sync audio. Suggested software should work on Vista or Windows 7. Any ideas? (besides Movie Maker)

After previously having worked in an editing capacity for four years, I miss the experience of editing and what it does for me as a writer. I'm interested in opportunities and ideas for part-time paid or perhaps even volunteer opportunities in the Philadelphia area doing editing.

Help Me Be A Good Web Editor! Please? Hi! The media outlet where I work has recently started a news web site, and I'm the editor. I have a vague idea of what I'm doing, but the actual copyediting-type-stuff I've been doing to AP print standards. I don't have a specific question, but generally, I'd really like to get some of the "official" basics of web editing down. I looked on mediabistro and they don't seem to have a class for this, and I looked on Amazon but I'm not sure about those books. Any suggestions for resources? I'd love either a class or a book that's as useful as the AP Guide, but for print. Your thoughts, hivemind?

I'm a professional copy editor who has been blessed with an intern with good instincts and grammatical understanding, but needs to learn the techniques of the craft. Right now I'm just reviewing her work and discussing her mistakes/omissions as they arise, but I'd like to do more formalized instruction. Can anyone recommend a lesson plan?

I have several lengthy documents I'm editing for a book. The author scanned his hard copy and ran the result through an OCR program. The OCR omitted most of the periods. Is there a way to make Microsoft Word 2000 or OpenOffice Writer 3 put the periods where they go, or am I doomed to putting them in as I edit?

I'm an engineer wanting to explore my creative side a bit via making short films aimed at online viewing via YouTube or whatever. I've got the high-end Macintosh but I need (1) a camera (hopefully better than my old MiniDV camcorder), (2) software (Final Cut Express or similar, I suppose), and (3) skill in the mechanics of filming and editing and in the technique of story telling. In other words, I need to learn how to operate the camera and editing software but I also need to learn what I want to do with it. I'd appreciate suggestions for any of this stuff but pointers on good books or whatever for learning the skills would be really nice.

I need help naming my freelance book editing business. I do developmental editing--critiquing "big picture" elements of a story like Point of View, character and plot development, pacing, etc.--but it's not a term that most writers are familiar with and it goes by other names as well, which confuses authors. I don't do copyediting (grammar and punctuation). I'd like something that's either self-explanatory but not boring, or is witty/irreverent/intriguing, with extra points for a literary allusion.

I'm responsible for all the documentation at my workplace. I receive a few documents per day, and invariably they're somewhat badly written. So part of my process is that I edit them and clean them up before I post them on our intranet. Most folks like that I do this, but there are some who take it personally and consider the document to be "theirs" - because they wrote it. However, the document is really for other people, and if it's difficult for others to understand, or there are steps missing, or at worst it causes confusion, then it is not a good document and requires modification. How do I tactfully manage this?
