Wireless earbud / earplug hybrid - do they exist?

I like to fall asleep listening to podcasts. I also like wearing earplugs so living in a noisy city doesn't wake me in the night. Can I do both with one magical set of headphones? [more inside]

Need sleepable earplug suggestions.

After being awoken by my roommate and his SO last night at 2:30 AM, I'm looking for suggestions for earplugs that are comfortable to sleep in and effective at blocking out noise. Ask, what do you use to keep the sounds out at night? [more inside]

I don't really want to be this aware of my own blood.

I sometimes like to use earplugs, but I always end up just listening to my blood loudly pulsing around in my head. This is not ideal. Does anyone have recommendations for earplugs that actually make things quiet, instead of just replacing ambient noise with the noise of my heartbeat? [more inside]

Hearing Protection for Musicians, or, It's Too Loud and I'm Too Old

I am a bass player, and I have recently returned to playing loud, noisy rock and roll after a 4-year hiatus from the stage. I have always eschewed earplugs on stage, on the grounds that they keep me from hearing all of the nuance I need to hear to play effectively with a group. But I ain't no spring chicken anymore, and now I recognize that the real reason I never wore earplugs before, even in mind-bendingly loud bands, was mostly out of misplaced machismo. I can tell that I have lost some hearing over the years, especially in the ear that usually faces the drums, and I want to avoid losing more. I have tried using cheap, disposable foam ear plugs, but I am not satisfied with the sound quality I am getting with them. Are there better ear protection alternatives out there? [more inside]

Earplugs/muffs to block out a crying baby

In the next two weeks, there will be a new addition to our household -- a baby. (Not mine.) And since it's not mine, I would prefer not to hear it. There are lots of AskMes about earplugs, but many (like the ETY ones) use as a selling point that they don't muffle speech. I want to muffle everything. Best ear protection for the job, <$30?

NRR-rated in-ear headphones?

It's yo' cat / It's yo' problem!

CatLivingFilter: One of my roommate's two cats has become very attached to me, probably because my roommate (by his own admission) inherited the cat from an ex relationship and never really liked it that much. That's cool--I like cats, and cats like me. What I don't like is that the cat has become so attached that it will yell inconsolably outside my door, scratch at my door, and sometimes even bash into my door in despair of not being in my room. This has become a major sleep disrupting problem for me. What can I reasonably expect my roommate to do to respond to this situation? [more inside]

Save my marital bed from the plague of snoring?

My husband snores incredibly loudly. It makes sleeping next to him very difficult. Are there any unconventional recommendations - i.e. beyond drugstore earplugs and a white noise machine - to tolerate it? This is starting to really fray our marriage. [more inside]

Shure SE310 vs. Etymotic ER6 with a catch.

I've been given a pair of Shure SE310 earphones for Christmas. This is fantastic. However, Etymotic makes the ER6s which can be fitted into custom earplug molds. I happen to already have the custom earplug molds for my musician's earplugs. Should I keep the Shures or exchange them for ER6s? [more inside]
