Where online to buy hardware for quickly making identical copies of DVDs.

Burnflixing — I want to make be able to quickly make identical copies of DVDs. I have an old MacBook Pro. What's the best burning hardware? Where can I buy it online? I'd like something that doesn't require me to de-encrypt or decode anything. It need not involve downloading the DVD to my hard-drive. I hear that's a slower method and involves encryption, so if possible, I'd like to avoid that.

Which is screwed up, my DVD burner or my laptop?

I'm using Windows XP, and a 3 yr old external DVD+RW/-RW burner. Pacific Digital, NEC 2500a. I've been burning avis to DVD using Roxio 6 Drag to Disk. I have a great many dvds that aren't closed - partially burned, unformatted to work in any drive, they'll only work in the dvd burner with drag to disk. My dvd burner has suddenly stopped recognizing both THESE dvds, and also BLANK dvds, though it will read dvds I have burned before. The partially burned dvds and blank dvds give me a CD icon in My Computer, and will not open. It says something like "Incorrect function" when I try. This is also the error I used to get when I burned coasters. In my research on this topic, I've now been schooled on the evils of packet burning, so if you can help me solve this problem, I will switch to Nero, I swear.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled Roxio 6 twice, to no avail. I decI also uninstalled Roxio completely and installed an older version of Nero - Nero 6. With Nero 6, the Nero Burning ROM program attempts to open and then freezes. I have to shut it down in the task manager. This happens even when I disconnect the external drive. This makes me suspect that it may not be the burner's problem.

I have tried many solutions. These include installing Roxio's updates to the software, and reinstalling the ASPI (driver?). Nothing works. I'm occasionally also getting a BSOD when a program tries to reboot my computer itself. (I don't get the error when I restart). The error message on the BSOD is: "driver unloaded without canceling pending operations" Please help.

How to split a.iso into 2 .iso?

Can you split an .iso (DVD burn image) file in two? I've been ripping all of my Netflix movies into .iso files before realizing that my burning software (Nero burning rom) doesn't split an image file (.iso) that is larger than 4.7gig into two smaller files. All of these movies require dual layer blank DVDs, but since I have a 100 pack of blank DVDs I would like to try to see if I could split the movies to 2 different discs rather than buy the larger blanks. That was my full question. Any help is appreciated!

Help me win over the mother through piracy!

Need to burn a DVD from Avi files to impress my boyfriend's mother! Help! My boyfriend's mother is in town, and I know she doesn't fully approve of our gay relationship. I've met her briefly a few times, but that was before she knew about us.

I want to get in her good graces (or at least do something thoughtful for her) by burning her a copy of a season one of her favourite television series. I know, I know, I'm an evil downloader.

Anyway, I now have a bunch of avi files and have no idea how to burn them properly to a DVD. I want to make it nice, with a menu and all that.

There is a similar post on AskMe from about a year ago, but it was centred on a Mac system. I've tried the PC solutions in there, but with no luck. There was reference to a DIKO program, but it was way too confusing for a newbie like me. I've tried google searches, but all the free trial programs I've found either put a registration reminder in the middle of the video, only converted part of the video, or something lame like that.

So the question (finally) is: Where can I get a simple, free, and easy to use program to convert these files? Or is there a program that can write them directly to a playable DVD (with I guess a menu feature so I can make it all purdy)?

My DVD burner suddenly stopped working. Is it a hardware or software issue?

My DVD burner suddenly stopped working. Is it a hardware or software issue? Very long Error log inside. I bought a DVD burner from newegg.com a few months ago and I backed up about 20 DVD's and made a few data DVD's with no problem. A few days ago, I tried to back up another DVD and got a burn error. It has since happened every time I've tried to back up a DVD since.

The data from the source DVD is copied fine, and the DVD is even burned. At the end (or nearly at the end anyway), it says that the burn process was not successful. Here is the DVD Shrink error log. I can't make heads or tails of it; is it possible to determine what's going wrong from the error log? Hopefully there isn't any personal information in it...
WMP Playlist to DVD burning

How can I easily burn a long Windows Media Player playlist to a dvd? If that isn't possible how can I export only the desired files from my overly large media collection to another directory so I can then just burn those files using another program without having to individually select all the files ?

I don't have an ipod or another external device that i could easily copy to using wmp's sync feature

Slow DVD burning

I have two dvd burners in my computer. One is an old(er) LG that is capable of burning (with the right media) at 4x. Last week, I picked up a new one that is capable of burning at 8x. However, the burn times seem to be the same. Now, the media I am using is capable of being burned at 8x. In fact, Nero tells me it is burning at 8x, and estimates the burn time at about 8 or 9 minutes for a full (4.7GB) disc. However, it counts down that 8 or 9 minutes and then just keeps burning, and it is taking closer to a half hour.

This is how long it took the old burner to burn things at 4x. Furthermore, I tried burning things at 2x, and got the same result. This happens regardless of the DVD media I am using.

Is there some setting I have wrong? The only thing that looks strange to me is that, when I burn, the buffer level hops around a LOT.

The resulting discs are perfect, but it'd be nice they came out as fast as they are supposed to!

For reference, the new burner is a Pioneer DVR 109. It is capable of going as high as 16x, but I have no 16x blanks. A friend has an identical burner and has no such problems.

How can I convert a MAC AVI file to MPEG?

I have an AVI file on a mac. I would like to convert it for use in After Effects and eventual burn onto DVD. I can handle the second part, but I'm having trouble converting the AVI to MPEG. (More Inside) My stumbling seems to come from the way the audio is encoded. with the divx plugin I can get video in QT but no audio. I have the pro version of Quicktime, and access to a PC, so if it would be easier there (though I don't have any video software on that), it is an option as well. Many thanks.

What kind of DVD burner should I get?

Copying DVDs. A friend of mine was recently burgled and lost his rather pricey DVD collection. I now fear for my own. At present, I do not have a DVD burner of any type. What are best? Computer kinds or TV kinds (ie, those double dvd decks I sometimes see on eBay)? Is there a reason to avoid either? I would for the most part just be copying DVDs and really not backing computer shit up. However, I'd like to copy the entire DVD (menus, extras, etc.). Thanks! With those double decks, is it as easy at it seems? The computer method seems to be more hands on/time intensive. Yes? No?

Also, if you have comments or links on DVD+R vs. -R, I'd appreciate it. Googling gives me nothing but blank media sales.

And I have OS X if that affects your answer.
