Help me build my perfect home media machine. It must play blu-ray discs, browse the web, and stream HD video from internet sources. I have no interest in video games, and little interest in cable TV. Is this something I can buy? If this is something I must build myself, what kind of computing muscle will I need?

Is there a Mac equivalent to
CDR Media Code Identifier. This could be run in Parallels, but I'm not sure it'll be able to get what it needs out of the DVD drive. And of course, it'd be nice to not have to run Parallels.

I'm in the US, and I would like to buy a DVD that I'm pretty sure is only available in UK (Region 2) format. I don't really care about playing it in my home DVD player – what I'm more interested in is getting it on my iPod. I have a Dell Inspiron e1505, circa March 2006, with Handbrake installed. Here's what I'd like to know:

["Halp!!eleventyone! Diagnose my computer troubles from far far away" filter]: Why does my DVD-+R drive show up on the computer, let me apparently record, burn and/or write data to the disc, and close the session, but not actually do any of those things?

Does anyone know a decent real-time MPEG-2 capture program for the PC? One that produces high-quality output (as good as a standard DVD recorder), produces DVD compliant MPEG2 files, and is preferably free (or cheap).

My machine has a DVD writer, my girlfriend's iMac has a DVD reader.
Is there a piece of software which will allow me to burn a bootable DVD in Mac format?

I'm new to the wonderful world of DVDs, and am at a bit of a loss. A friend recently installed a PD dual format drive on my Win2000 machine, and successfully burned a test disc. However, when I go to play a purchased DVD, I receive an error message stating that I don't have a compatible encoder installed. I could choose and install one, but quite frankly, I'd be picking one at random. Help me out and suggest a good one? If more system info is needed, please just let me know...
