Black 2.0GHz MacBook (2GB memory) from 2006
-- it's been repurposed as a Netflix playback machine. I have it connected to a VGA adaptor to a 19" widescreen monitor and it plays back Netflix in a browser and we also watch DVDs on it, and we also play AVIs with VLC.
The problem: video is just slightly choppy. Just choppy enough to be annoying. Tried Chrome and also Safari to do the playback.
How can I squeeze more video performance from this laptop to avoid the slight choppiness? I have a feeling if I can improve it just slightly that would be a big win.

Help me build my perfect home media machine. It must play blu-ray discs, browse the web, and stream HD video from internet sources. I have no interest in video games, and little interest in cable TV. Is this something I can buy? If this is something I must build myself, what kind of computing muscle will I need? [more inside]

Lazyweb: Anyone have an HDTV that has both Netflix streaming and a dvd player built-in? Are you happy with it? I'm interested in sets with only the streaming feature too, I have a spare DVD player and might want to upgrade to blu-ray in the future anyhow... [more inside]

My postman or somebody in the mail chain between him and Netflix shipping centers has cracked or destroyed several DVDs en route to me. I know he destroyed one by shutting my mailbox door over the midpoint of the disc, but with the others I'm not sure where it happened. How do I address this so that I don't become liable for the damage or lose my account? And how do I maximize my credibility? [more inside]

Netflix users, a straw poll: Recently at least one third of my discs arrive heavily scratched up and skip heavily
. Are your experiences similar or do I have a terrible dvd player that hates me?

I want to buy a NetFlix gift certificate for my parents. They live in the U.S. I live in Canada. The online order form (including credit card info) can't handle my non-US address. Furthermore, the customer service number isn't accessible from Canada. Any suggestions, ranging from alternative access method to alternative DVD by mail service providers? [more inside]

I recently signed up for Peerflix
, a DVD tradeing service. So far my confidence level is low, seems like a lot of DVDs are listed but not available. Some DVDs (the better ones) require huge amounts of peerbuxs making them dogs for tradeing and difficult to earn enough peerbuxs. Activity level seems low and theres no one home at support and no community support group. Anyone have any experience with it?
