How to clean a sticky Dutch oven?

My cast-iron Dutch oven is hopelessly gunky. What's the best way to clean it? I used my Dutch oven to cook stove-top popcorn the other night and didn't immediately clean it. The next morning, the little bit of olive oil left in the bottom of the pot had done... something. The inside of the pot is now coated with this very sticky substance that will not budge at all with dish soap and a lot of elbow grease.

So what can I use to degunk my Dutch oven without harming it or making it unsafe to cook in?

I must impress the family

Our family is going to be reuniting at the historic cottage in St. Donat, Quebec. The agreement is that each person will cook dinner for all on their night. I have set myself (and my daughter) the challenge that we will cook everything that day on an open fire. Please help me. I'm not thinking barbecue (which my brother can do), but rather something like my braised-lamb-cooked-six-hours recipe. I was inspired by the Alton Brown "Power Out" segment, in which he used a Dutch oven over coals to make bread etc. Ideally I don't have to buy any new pots but I will if necessary. What I need from you, fellow mefites, is suggestions for recipes and cooking methods that will let me, and Claire, impress the family.

Making the most of a Le Creuset Dutch oven.

Help me make the most of my new Le Creuset Dutch oven. After years of longing, I just bought a 7 1/4-quart Le Creuset Dutch oven (cherry red) and I'm excited to cook with it. I plan on breaking it in with a nice mole soon, but I'm looking for other dishes that will help me make the most of my new toy. Any favorite recipes or ideas you'd like to share? I'd especially love suggestions of dishes that I wouldn't be able to make in another type of pot.

Which dutch oven should I buy?

Le Creuset or Le Chasseur? Is one a cheap imitation of the other? Or are they much of a muchness? Are either even worth the money in the first place, or would I get the same result from a cast iron dutch oven from a camping supply store?
