what size Le Creuset enameled cast iron dutch oven?

Hi, I want to buy a Le Creuset enameled cast iron dutch oven but because they are so expensive I can only buy one. I've waited a long time and finally I'm going to take the plunge and do it. I know I want the yellow color, and heaviness does not matter because I'm going to leave it on my stove top for display when I'm not using it, so I don't have to lug it in and out of my cupboard. Buying Dutch Museumkaarts from the US?

I live in the US and I want to buy a pair of Museumkaarts (multi-museum passes) as gifts for a newly married couple who are about to move to the Netherlands. The website is set up to support purchase only with a Dutch address, which I do have for the couple, but also a Dutch bank account, which I don't have. Their customer service couldn't offer any alternatives. Is there a way to make this happen? [more inside]

Low-cost options for calling Dutch mobile phones from US landline

In the next few days, I'll be making two long (90+ minute each) calls from the US to mobile phones in the Netherlands. I prefer to use my landline for these calls, which is Voip through Xfinity. Their international calling plan, which is $10 for 300 minutes, would be awesome but it specifically doesn't cover Dutch mobile phones. The Xfinity rate is $.30/minute, which is more than I'd like to pay. What options do I have? [more inside]

Utrecht: small church courtyard?

I'm trying to identify a church in central Utrecht that is roughly 700 years old; is NOT especially tall or ornate; and has (or had as of the late 90s) a small inner courtyard with a simple, spare garden built around a little round pond or raised round pool. Any ideas re. which this is or where I could look for clues? I've browsed lots of google images but haven't recognized it that way.

Feasability of importing used Dutch / Danish / German bike to USA

Does anyone have experience with trying to import *used* Dutch bikes (or Danish, or German, etc) into the USA? I've only been able to find *new* bikes for sale, and they tend to cost much more than similarly priced American / Chinese / Taiwanese re-makes (Linus, WorkCycles, Etc). [more inside]

Which cooking oil(s) will be least likely to turn rancid?

I cook with Dutch Oven sometimes. After you cook, you clean and very lightly oil the oven. Problem is, I don't use the dutch oven often so the next time I cook, the oil is rancid. I've read that Coconut oil never goes rancid and is the best to use. I've read that Crisco never goes rancid and is the best to use. I've read the oil with the highest smokepoint (avocado oil) is the best to use. I've read that the oil with the lowest oxidation index is the best to use (I have no idea which oil that is). No one seems to know. If any one of you have advice or knowlege, I would like to hear it!

Value of antique charcoal drawings

Two charcoal drawings were left behind when both my parents recently transitioned. We are attempting to establish their value. Both appear to be very old, Dutch in nature and both feature large sailboats and people "working" on shore. Each is about 36 inches long and about 30 inches tall. The artists name appears to be Janssam or Janssau...the "end-swirl" of the last letter of the name curves up and hovers over the name, back to the first "s". I have a photo of one drawing but haven't yet figured out how to post a picture on this site. Any help or suggestion toward identifying these pictures is greatly appreciated.

Books on 17th c. Anglo-Dutch maritime wars?

Looking for good books/resources about the 17th century Anglo-Dutch maritime wars. For a project I'm doing, I'd like to get more historical detail about what the Dutch call the English Wars and what the English call the Dutch wars. While I am interested in the specific facts, I'm more interested in getting a sense of time and place, both for those who were at sea and for those at home in the two countries. Do you know any fascinating books (non-fiction or historical fiction) that reference these events?
