My niece is incarcerated in Lancaster County PA, and I'm trying to get her help from NY. Can you help with lawyer recommendations, or PA programs, or any knowledge of the PA criminal system?

In a country which believes in liberty and 'innocent until proven guilty', why do people accept DUI checkpoints and airport body scanners? I'm trying to get opinions that help me understand a perspective that's not my own.

I got pulled over and asked if I'd been drinking. I hadn't (I never drink, at all), and happily submitted to a breathalyzer... which the cop said read .22. (He did not let me see the numbers, tellingly.) So, now I have a court date.

Offered a professional level job at PG&E. I would be driving a company car, but not all the time - desk job with field duty. On the online application I indicated that I do not have any criminal convictions (i.e. felonies, misdemeanors, etc.) For fear of not getting an interview at all, I replied in the negative. However, I have one misdemeanor DUI from almost seven years ago. They will be performing a background check. I know they really want me - they offered me the job within a day of interviewing. Does the background check go back this far? Am I screwed or will I have the opportunity to explain myself if it comes up? HR has not gotten to me to do the check yet. What, if anything, should I do?

I am in North Carolina; just received sentencing for a DWI (first offense), and I'm wondering how I might save some money on the inevitable insurance rate hike. Currently I am on a policy with my wife, through Progressive. We have a 2008 Mazda 3i and a 1992 Chevy Beretta; I am wondering if it might benefit me to get my own, separate insurance policy for the Beretta, so that the more expensive Mazda rates will stay with her and hopefully be unaffected? I don't want to run my credit report getting rate quotes, so I'm throwing the question out here. Thanks for any advice!

I was stopped at a "sobriety checkpoint". The officer said I blew 0.07, and let me go with a "warning".
The catch - I don't drink. Haven't had a drink in 20 years. What's going on?

I have a friend who has served time for several DUI's, and is currently on parole. He is worried about failing a drug test, and being sent back to the slammer to complete his sentence. Are there any MeFis out there that have been on parole, failed a test for marijuana, and not been sent back to jail?

Well this will get a lot of flack, but what's the deal with this '
How to Avoid a DUI''? It's the latest local news sensationalist reporting fad, and I'm really curious. Personally, I will never have more than one drink and drive (yeah, yeah even one is apparently bad), but I can't think of what would be on the video that's so bad. I realize that sensationalist local news reporting is just that, but they have some truth in them. I mean .08 is a .08 no matter where you are?
