Can anyone recommend a good action, landscaping, and travel DSLR in the $~1000 range? I tend to travel around and take pictures of nature, which include landscape as well as fast-moving animals. (Low light would be nice too, but I won't hold my breath.) I have read this, but it's from '07. I'd like updated recommendations.

Get me to take more pictures! I bought a DSLR last year, but other than a week trip to Paris, I haven't used the camera extensively. Sometimes I feel it might be the size (a camera around your neck, to me, screams TOURIST). I've thought about walking around the neighborhood (I live in Chicago's north side), but have never gotten out the front door with my camera. I have no problem with my pocket camera.

I'm completely baffled by Nikon's DSLR strategy and I'd like to understand a few things better: first they create the DX line and seem to indicate that cropped is there to stay, now they go full frame. What should a serious film photographer who wants to go DSLR and already owns a bunch of excellent manual focus Nikon lenses do now? I also find baffling that they're not teling who manufactures their full-frame sensors -- don't potential customers have the right to know who makes the heart of the really expensive camera they may buy? Thanks.

Anyone remember a (big?) blogger taking a photography class a few years back? I just got a dSLR and am reading everything I can find. For some reason, there's a thorn stuck in my brain that keeps reminding me of a blogger a few years back who decided to take a photography course to get better with their camera. I'd love to find their site / posts about it. [more inside]

What's your favorite Nikon-compatible macro lens? I'm completely new to macro photography (and still pretty new to photography in general, having purchased my first DSLR a little over a year ago), and I'm leaning towards the Nikon 60mm f/2.8D AF, largely because of the price differential between this and some of the other Nikkor macros. Anyone have any great experience with some of the makeshift macro lenses (using extension tubes, reversing rings, etc)?

dSLRfilter: Which Nikon should I buy? D40, D50, or D70s? I've been thinking of purchasing a dSLR for some time now, and I'm seriously thinking of buying one very soon, but I can't seem to make up my mind. How do I take sunrise/sunset photos with a DSLR without blinding myself? I've heard that looking through a camera at the sun is bad for your eyes since it's magnifying the light. So how do I safely take pictures of a sunrise or sunset with a DSLR? Is it really that dangerous to look through the lens? Am I damaging my eye by doing so?
