Seeking suggestions for a sonorous selection

This is kind of the definition of a problem of plenty, but I was recently gifted $1000 with which to buy a musical instrument for myself, and I have no idea what to buy. I already play a number of instruments, and between my girlfriend and myself (mostly her) we have a small selection of instruments already. I would love to hear any and all suggestions. [more inside]

What should I put under my MIDI drumset?

Playlists of Basic Beats for a Beginning Drummer

I bought a set of Roland V-drums recently and I'd like to put together some playlists that focus on basic beats I should be learning as a beginner. The idea is to have each playlist focus on a specific type of beat, starting easier and building in complexity/tempo. I'm mostly into rock music, and my goal right now is to be able to keep a solid groove - nothing fancy.

Where can I play drums in Brooklyn, near or accessible from Park Slope?

After 6 years, I'd like to get back into playing drums. I don't currently have a kit and I live in a small walk-up in South Park Slope. Is there anywhere nearby or accessible that I can go to a few times a week to play? Monthly fee would be ideal, but I'd be fine with paying a reasonable hourly rate. [more inside]

Not your everyday drumbeat?

Friends, help me compile a list, would you? I'm looking for pop/rock songs that feature very distinctive beats from the drummer. Anything really ear-catching and creative that departs from more ordinary timekeeping, in some fresh way. As an example, one that falls into that category would be the Zombies' Time of the Season. And please include a YouTube (or other) link if you can, since almost any song ever recorded is now on YouTube. Thanking you in advance.

using liquid rhythm to create midi patterns for addictive drums

Help me search for the way to fix it so that the pattern I hear in Liquid Rhythm gets played on roughly the 'right' drums when I export midi into Addictive Drums.
