I smoked marijuana this past weekend (yesterday). Today at work I found out that I have a drug test tomorrow. I doubt I will pass the test. What should I do? Some more background and options inside. [more inside]

...or maybe what makes a drug it an addictive drug? In the way that there are checklists for psychological disorders, is there some kind of checklist of parameters that qualify a substance to be an addictive drug...or...I'm still not sure "addictive drug" is the right description. Well, what I'm really trying figure out is: Besides the fact that it's not a substance, can television be considered a drug? Maybe another way of asking is: What is the behavior of an addictive drug?

I take Adderall for ADD, but am growing dissatisfied with it due to what feels like increasing tolerance and dependence, as well as a couple of secondary reasons. I want to talk to my doctor about switching to Provigil, and would like to hear from anybody who has any advice or experience to relate regarding the pros and cons of the two medications. Details within. [more inside]
I hired a new nanny. Today is her 2nd day. As I had bad experiences with nanny before, I set up a nanny cam. After I came home today, I reviewed the video clips and found my nanny took out a prescription bottle, took a pill out of the bottle, kind of smash something on the table and then use a small paper roll and then it looks like she inhales it into nose. I reported to police right away and will definitely fire her. I don't know what else I can do or what else I should do. Any suggestions? Thank you
I started dating my girlfriend six months ago. Since that time, I have gradually taken more of my stimulant medication than prescribed. I have told her on multiple occasions about the overuse of my stimulant medication and that recently it had gotten worse. Earlier tonight she told me that she is starting to distance herself from me and that she needs some extra space to protect herself [from being around someone with addictive behavior]. Her brother had a drug problem and she understands how emotionally draining it can be to have an addict in her life. What is the mature thing to do in this situation? Do I wait for her to potentially break up with me? Do I ask her for a break while I work on things? Do I just want to ask for a break to save myself from the pain of her breaking up with me first? I love her and I want her to be a part of my life but I don't want her to be consumed by my addiction while I get help. Please help.
Fighting a cold and wasn't thinking. I am on 20mg of Lexapro and I just took some Nyquil with 30mg of dextro. Got to looking and it looks like there is a major possibility of seratonin syndrome. Should I go to the hospital now? I'm a male, 225 pounds, mostly healthy except for this darn cold. How nervous should I be?
my SO smokes weed pretty much every day. is it safe to assume that this is some kind of self-medication for stress or anxiety, and if so, what are the best ways that i can help as a partner? [more inside]
I just started seeing a rheumatologist for my ankylosing spondylitis. She suggested a long term NSAID rather than just taking ibuprofen as I had been doing. She prescribed two options: diclofenac, which I tried, and Indomethacin, which I have not yet tried. I have questions about the new drug before I start it but my rheumatologist won't be able to respond for about a month. Should I see my family doctor or a pharmacist with questions about the new meds? Are either likely to be really familiar with a random medication?
I'm considering joining a clinical drug trial. What should I be thinking about? [more inside]
I've been submitting hair samples myself with the Hairconfirm test. I understand the hair test, confirms usage within a 90 day period. On day 72, I submitted samples, and tested positive with a .53 pg/mg for THC Metabolite. On day 92, I submitted samples, and tested positive with a .45 pg/mg for THC Metabolite. On day 108, I submitted samples, and STILL tested positive with a .42 pg/mg for THC Metabolite. Why is the rate of reduction of THC Metabolites in my hair not reducing faster? [more inside]
My adult daughter was diagnosed very quickly by a psychiatrist with bi polar disorder. It isn't that I disagree, but unfortunately I'm concerned that she is showing signs of antisocial personality disorder....She cycles about every three months having at least 2-3 mini rage episodes a month. She told me today that she's scared because of thoughts she is having. She lives with me, as do her two amazing kids. Her ability to care for them on her own is out of the question in my opinion based on the fact that she has a pill addiction and has had 2 seizures over dosing. When things are bad she goes to the doctor, has good intentions, gets back on a "good" track when things are bad she is not capable of being a loving mother. [more inside]
I was recently sitting down to tea with a friend of mine's (we're both in our early 20's), and the topic wandered over to hard drug use (e.g. stuff like cocaine and crystal meth, not marijuana or alcohol.) When comparing our perceptions of how common hard drug use was, we were completely surprised when our answers were polar opposites: I saw it as an extremely rare thing, but she said it was something virtually everyone did but no one talked about. What's the truth here? How prevalent is hard drug use anyway? And why do our experiences differ so much? [more inside]
Can I get a prescription from my doctor for a urine drug test? I quit smoking marijuana ~25 days ago. Before quitting I smoked once or twice everyday. I ordered some dipstick drug test off the internet and started testing my urine after 5 days of not smoking. About 7 days ago the tests started coming up negative. I'd like to get this confirmed by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry. Can I ask my primary care physician for a prescription for one? If I do, will he get the results and report them to my insurance company? [more inside]
I am hoping to locate present and historical sales or usage figures for various prescription drugs, and I am not sure where to start. I'm trying to use the data to get a sense of how many people were using a particular drug at different times; I just figured sales volume would be a good indication. For me, rough numbers would be fine. Paying for the data may be an option (especially if it is not too expensive), but I was hoping to find some good free resources. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Market share data for different drugs in a particular class would be similarly useful, especially to the extent that I can also find overall sales or use volume for the overall drug class.
From a medical/science standpoint, what are the limiting factors that make it difficult to produce pharmaceutical drugs that do not have negative side effects?

I have never taken a benzodiazepine and am posting anonymously so you know I have zero reason to lie. [more inside]
