I am a 52 y/o woman with a perfect driving record but for the last 20 years I have only driven in Idaho--Boise is the biggest traffic I have seen in the last 20 years. We may be moving to the Fresno area and I will want to drive the freeways to LA and SF and be confident about it. I need advice because I have really developed some anxiety when I think about it. Last weekend my husband and I rented a car and drove from the Fresno airport to a smaller city nearby and I was even nervous as a passenger when he had to use the GPS to find our ways on the freeways. We had to keep up our speed even when we did not know when/where to turn off. The Hertz GPS magellan was not that good but it still looked nerve-wracking to me! What advice can you give me? I would love to be able to take off from Fresno and drive to LA for the day sometime. How will I get confident about this type of driving? It seems the traffic goes much faster than I am used to and people are changing lanes faster and with less notice too. I would be smart enough to know not to head to LA during the rush hours but even in lower traffic I am experiencing anxiety even thinking about it! Thanks for your help!
I am going on a road trip next week that will include Ithaca, Buffalo, Niagara Falls, and points in between. I'd love some suggestions of fun, amazing, quirky, or air conditioned things to do along the way. We'll be coordinating rest stops so any 'in between' suggestions would be especially appreciated. Moderately physically active OK, strenuous not so much. Trip includes very small children.

We are moving cross-country and would like to plan the best route to get from New England to the Midwest, specifically to Minnesota. We were thinking of stopping at Niagara Falls and in Chicago along the way (to try Rick Bayless' restaurant!). I-90 looks pretty painfully dead along most of the way and we would like to know anything cool near I-90 along this route such as nice places to walk/parks/monuments and things to see, or great places to eat, keeping in mind that we are pescatarians so steakhouses and burger joints are not our bag. Also is there any merit to the idea of taking Route 401 through Canada rather than continuing I-90 through the USA, that would outweigh the negatives of not being able to use our smartphones while outside the States? Any ideas? Thank you for helping us entertain ourselves on a long long drive.

So I am staying in Yosemite for one week in a friend's cabin in Fish Camp, and as long as I'm gone by the 23rd I get it for free. I have full lightweight camping/survival gear, food and a partner but no real clue if we should stay in Yosemite (can't afford a cabin, might not be any more wilderness/overnight passes left) or just slowly drive home. So, included is a MAP of our path home. If anyone knows of a great place to stop, be it for an hour or for a day, feel free to offer it up! We don't have a lot of money, but we do have camping gear/food already so as long as it's not too far off the path we won't have any problem with the gas budget : )

I'm going to learn to drive a car. I have never driven a car before (unless you count, like, dodgems). I'm in my late 30s, and have recently moved to a town on the edge of nowhere (in Wales). The idea of driving is beginning to make me nervous. It's a combination of the "it's hard to learn when you're old" thing, the "rural place so no dual carriageways" thing, and the "oh my all those cars seem to go so fast" thing. What can I do to make this easier? Are there any "learning to drive for dummies" books that are worth getting? Or should I just stop panicking, bite the bullet and book myself some lessons?
I am terrified of driving cars. I don't have much experience driving (lived in a large city and used public transportation until recently). I find myself thinking that I will get into a car accident every time I get into the car. It is especially bad on the highway, and I even experience shortness of breath and major anxiety while on the highway. Help! [more inside]

Daughter passed her theory driving test some time ago but failed the practical. Having had more tuition recently she has another practical test in a few weeks with the complication that her theory test runs out very shortly after. If she fails this practical test she will have to start again from the begining by retaking her theory again. Can anyone recommend a driving instructor in the Nottingham area who will be able to offer a short and intensive course to enable her to pass her practical?
