So I have this dual NAS drive which I thought was pretty cool until a few months ago. I was gone on a short trip and left it plugged in (perhaps unwise).
Anyway when I came back the drive wouldnt mount. As it turns out it some how got corrupted rendering it unreadable...

Is it possible to salvage a hard drive that has been through hell and back? I have a 40gig HD from a few years ago that was inside a computer tower that was ditched in the backyard for a few months, and there was stuff on it when it was pitched.

My LaCie 500 GB external hard drive is being uncooperative today - its main partition was deleted somehow. I wasn't doing anything out of the ordinary, just plugged it in and Windows saw it as a blank disk. Although I see the lost partition in TestDisk, repeated attempts to recover it have proved to be fruitless. What should I do now?

So, my friend's harddrive got wiped. Lost a year's worth of high-res artwork. Does anyone have experience with using a data recovery service? I'm looking specifically for price information, how much data was retrievable, and potentially a recommendation.

I screwed up and plugged the wrong power supply into a hard drive enclosure. After the sickly smell of fried electronics wafted up to my nose, I freaked out, unplugged everything, and disassembled the enclosure. The electronics controlling the enclosure? All fine. The hard drive, not so much. One of the IC's on the drive's controller PCB is fried. My question -- is this normal design for a hard drive enclosure? It seems to me that if the enclosure recieves incorrect voltages, it would be common sense to design some failsafe idiot-proofing to keep said incorrect voltages from reaching and frying the drive.
