I've got an older notebook, and I was thinking it would be an interesting project to replace its 2.5" hard drive with a solid state flash drive. I'd probably just go with a 4 GB drive, and keep all my data out on the Internet. I was thinking it would extend the battery life, speed up data access, and make the machine a little quieter. Has anybody done this?

My CD-RW drive will not firmly attach to my Dell Inspiron 8000 laptop. If I push it with my thumbs, it will make a connection, but as soon as I remove firm pressure, it loses its connection. [more inside]

I just got a new used laptop, and it has a lot of error messages showing up, so I want to completely clean it up before I start using it. Is it better to use the manufacturer's Quick Restore discs (Compaq), or to reformat the HD completely and install an operating system clean? [more inside]
