How to securely erase an SDD drive without damaging it?

I have a MacBook Air that I am considering selling. It has an SSD, and I would like to securely wipe it clean before putting it up for sale. I know how to wipe regular hard drives, but I've heard that secure erases of SSD's actually DAMAGE the drive. Is there a secure way to remove data from an SSD hard drive without compromising its lifespan/integrity?

How do we use Google Drive properly? Folders aren't syncing.

I have a Google Drive question - I thought that once I set up a folder in Google Drive I could move files into it on my desktop and they would show up when I open the folder online in Google Drive. Why aren't they in the drive, even though I save them to it? I can't even find them in the downloaded Google Drive folder. Also, Google Drive is showing as an item on my "Desktop" and also as a folder in my "Documents" (Windows 8). Neither one seems to be syncing with the online version and they are different from one another. In order to save a file so that it shows up in an online Google Drive folder I have to upload it online from inside Google Drive. Any ideas? Am I trying to use it incorrectly? My assumption was that I could open a file in a folder in the Google Drive folder under "Documents" on my desktop, make changes, and the changes would show up when I open the document online.

Motivation, Drive, Learning

Has anyone ever experienced a reduction in their motivation and drive? If so, what things have you done to try and change it? In the past, my motivation has been influenced by pain and fear, but that doesn't seem like the most useful way of staying motivated at least that is what my friends have told me. On the same topic, does anyone have any book recommendations or movies that have helped them get motivated again?

best way to clone my hard drive to multiple external drives at once

Hello all. Whats the best way (fast, cheap?) to clone my internal hard drive to as many external usb hard drives as possible? (up to 5 at a time, at the same time?). Can this be done in the same amount of time as it takes to clone it to one external hdd? Or would the internal bus choke on the data and take forever? Is there even software that does this? Most of the usual suspects (ghost, acronis, etc) seem designed only to clone 1:1. The default solution seems to be buying a hardware standalone hdd cloner for hundreds of bucks. Thanks for any thoughts/ideas!

Help planning route from Boston to Vegas

I'm leaving at 10am tomorrow from Waltham, MA and driving to Las Vegas. Stressing over the weather. I plan on taking it slow...driving maybe 8-9 hours a day and not at all after dark. I've never driven in bad weather so I'm really nervous. If I take Northern route I'll be in snow in Denver and if I take Southern route there are severe thunderstorms (and poss tornadoes?) in OK and TX by Wed. and Thurs. I'm driving alone and this is my first road trip. BTW I have a Nissan Rogue that will be packed full. Looking for advice planning route home...details appreciated! Thanks!

How do I become fervently dedicated to something?

Suppose you’re a 28 year old who, after spending 18 years as a shut-in, is finally able to experience things most people experience in their early teens. How do you dedicate yourself to an idea, a cause, a company, or a domain of knowledge while being incessantly hounded by the realization that there is much more to life than the object of your obsession? Recommendations for trips/sightseeing out of Los Angeles

I'm going to be in Los Angeles from June 6 to June 11. I'll be hiring a car to get around L.A. - though we'll mostly be sticking to Central LA and Santa Monica over that weekend (7/8 June). I've been to L.A. before and done most of the touristy things - relying on both local buses and hop on/hop off tourist buses. Because I'll have a car this time, I was wondering what recommendations people have for things to see and places to go that are tricky to get to without a car. Anything within a couple of hours drive of Los Angeles. Thanks.

Help me find a good exteranl hard drive

The current external hard drive I have is "WD' brand that I got at best buy and I'm not happy with it. I am looking for a external hard drive that is easy to use for someone not that great with computers and I can back up my computer with it, that has the ability to be encrypted, is reliable, is ideally available locally at a place like best buy, must have a metal case, not a plastic one (the one I have now heats up and smells like burning plastic) Also bonus points if it has a fan in it. I have a PC not a mac, so it should be for a PC. Also I am not sure if I want to but one of those large external hard drives you leave attached or the smaller pocket sized one so any pro's and con's of both would be great.

Life without a motor?

I've never had much motivation to do anything, or much ability to persevere, and this makes life a chore. I feel like I was born without a motor - like other people have some source of energy inside that drives them towards their goals, while I tend to just drift passively and hope the things I want come to me (they don't). Worm Drive

For a little project I need to use a worm drive, and the best/ cheapest solution seems to be one like this designed for modelmaking. But how do I fix those gears on the shaft/ Axis? Am I supposed to mill a key in it or something like that? I have a Dremel, so I could carve something in the gear, but not in the worm. And then I would need a shaft with a fitted key and those are expensive. Or are they designed to heat-shrink them onto the shaft? Unfortunately there is no information on the site.

I have a 250 gig MacBook Pro with only 40 gigs of free space left...

I have a 250 gig MacBook Pro, which is about 3 years old. I have approx. 115 gigs of music stored in my Itunes library. All duplicate MP3 files were deleted. That leaves 135 or some odd gigs of space. I keep a large majority of my documents and files in a cloud service. I maybe have 5-10 gigs of random files I keep on my HD. That leaves approx. 125 gigs of space... I know that the computer uses (and I'll guestimate 25 gigs for the OS & random program files I have on my system)... That still leaves about 100 gigs worth of space un-accounted for.... When I open my 'finder', it tells me I have approx 50 gigs of space available. I have downloaded Disk Inventory X which is suppose to give you a break down of where all the space is being used. I have also read about a program called DaisyDisk. Both seem to be reputable and popular. I d/l'ed DIX first cause it was free..It did the analysis.... But....While I have somewhat of an idea of computers, I am not sure what is safe to delete, what should't be touched....What if I delete something that has specs attached to files that shouldn't be deleted...Neither utility really gives me an idea of what is safe to delete and what should not be touched. I know I must have a large cache of files and stuff that could be deleted....Image previews, etc.... I just don't know where to look. What is safe to get rid of.....Not sure what to do..... Thanks!
