How do I prevent yeast infections while taking antibiotics?

Has anyone prone to yeast infections been able to protect themselves while taking antibiotics? I want to start taking antibiotics (doxycycline) to treat my acne. It's my last resort. However, I am extremely prone to yeast infections. Will taking acidophilus supplements be enough? How much to take? I have been trying many, many routes to treat my acne, and I would now like to try doxycycline. However, a few years ago I absolutely devastated my good bacteria balance by taking a few rounds of Cipro, and I've been extremely prone to stubborn yeast infections ever since. Right now I'm clear, and I would like to stay that way.

I'm going to be taking acidophilus both orally and vaginally, but I don't know if that's enough and don't want to risk it. Has anyone had any experience doing this and succeeding at staving off the yeast?

Is Doxycycline A Bad Idea?

Doxycycline used for eye surface repair: Safe? Worth it? I have severe dry eye symptoms and light sensitivities. I saw an ophthalmologist this morning who is a cornea specialist. He gave me some drops to use, but he also wants me to try taking 100 MG of doxycycline twice daily for six weeks to see if it helps increase tear and oil production in my eyes (I may be a little bit off but that's the gist of what I gathered).

My wifey believes antibiotics should be used as a distant last resort, and is very skeptical of me using a broad-spectrum antibiotic for that long.

Is the wifey overreacting?
Should I give the pills a try?
Also, is 100 MG of doxycycline a sub-anti-microbal dose?
Have you had positive or negative experiences using doxycycline for eye surface repair?

Advice for India travel? (Health protection)

I am traveling to Kolkata for a week around Christmas. I am researching shots/meds requirements and am coming up against recommendations for malaria protection. I'm reluctant to use doxycycline or Lariam. I'm looking for personal experience info about the different options. Other travel advice, tips, or recommendations are also welcome!
