I am looking for recent survey results or other data points on consumer resistance to, or acceptance of, downloading browser add-ons and other downloaded apps. In other words, to what extent is the download step itself a barrier to consumers acquiring add-ons and apps, because of perceived risks like viruses and privacy issues. Extra points for data that sorts this out across age and other demographic groups.

What are some cool downloads/applications for Blackberry Storm? I would prefer that they are free, but if they cost a little thats ok too. I don't have very many app's on my Blackberry yet and would like to get some good ones. I guess I would like to get good app's that provide music streaming, connections to resourceful news contacts like NPR, maybe some games, maybe some cool art, etc... Any ideas or suggestions would be great. Thanks!

I downloaded a .scr file that was probably a virus. I was at least smart enough to trash the file instead of opening it, but is it likely that my computer is infected, anyway; that the file is executed merely by downloading it? (NOTE: This happened on a Macbook Pro.) [more inside]

I intend selling copies of the disc for a few pounds each to raise some money for school funds, so either copyright free or some sort of UK waiver would be essential. My Mother-in-Law's computer stops downloading files at about the 2.5 -3.MB point no matter what the size of file. Example, she attempts to download Picasa from google and the first 2.5-3 MB downloads, but then the rest of the 9MB file quits. It is not just Picasa, but any file over 3-4 MB. [more inside]

As of two weeks ago, my (entirely legal) Soulseek downloads won't go any faster than exactly 4.1 k/s. If I download more than one file at a time, they'll each go at 2 k/s; four at a time go at 1 k/s each; any more than that and they all fail. My internet is otherwise speedy and the relevant ports are forwarded. Why is this happening to me? What have I done wrong?

A friend has a band, the band has CDs, the band want to sell digital downloads of the music on those CDs. Is there a web site that offers some kind of service to help with the problem of payment processing and hosting the files? They already have their songs in the iTunes Music Store, but they also want to offer them from their own site. This would let them keep a bigger chunk of the price paid, and offer the songs to people not served by iTMS (for geographical, technological or ideological reasons). They might be willing to use plain mp3s, without DRM, if this is what's needed to offer the songs on their site.

I've recently installed eMule Plus; I used it many months ago but uninstalled because of connectivity problems. So now I have a new computer, I figure I can start with a fresh slate. But the same thing happened--it cut out my internect connectivity after about 5 minutes or so. Firefox, IE, all messengers, stopped working and the emule downloads slowed to a crawl. Also, it took a very long time for it to connect to servers in the first place. What's causing this? I have ZoneAlarm but it's "approved" eMule so I don't know why this is happening.
