I'm all ready to upgrade to Mavericks (OSX 10.9) except for one thing.
On Snow Leopard (10.6.8), I am able to open Safari's "Activity window" and see most video files as they're loading there (however, not certain sites like Hulu). From that window, it's an easy Option-Click to download said video file. Safari 7.0 doesn't have this ability. Is there a Safari 7.0 add-on or something that will bring this ability back to Safari? I help this sweet old lady with computer stuff. She's running Windows 7 and uses an SBC account "powered by Yahoo!" (terribly out-of-date interface). She often receives emails with family photos from her daughter-in-law's iPhone. She CAN download them, and I'm teaching her how to wade through the attachment-folders that seems to create (for virus-scanning I presume) and then copy them over to her Pictures folder, where she can organize them. However, they are often rotated incorrectly because of some iPhone - Windows issue, and they are often checked "Read-Only"... [more inside]

I think the tools for this exist, but I can't figure out how to put them together. I want to automate searching and downloading for any and all new videos, news articles, blog posts, etc. about a certain subject. It seems like there should be a way to do this by harnessing Google Alerts
and If This Then That
, but I can't figure out how to automate the downloading part of the process. [more inside]

I need to download video from a jwplayer site. Looks like all the suggestions online require you to be a novice coder. I'm not. I just want this one video downloaded and all the normal Chrome or Firefox extensions don't work. Not even RealPlayer. Anyone care to advise. Here's the site. http://bit.ly/11blqJI
Windows here if it makes a difference. Though I can access a Mac if need be.

My coworker's husband has an old Mindspring/Comcast email account which he checks on a PC at home. He set up his email account to download only new messages onto a device -- so if he accesses his email account from a phone, he then doesn't see any of these new emails the next time he uses his PC. I have been asked to fix this, and I'm not sure what type of settings he has set up. Do you have any ideas off the top of your head? [more inside]

I have a laptop with a Verizon Broadband Card with a 5G plan allowance a month. I have no idea how far this will go, for example if I download a 2 hour movie off Netflix how much of my 5G would it use? Does it download the movie and then quit using the 5G while I am watching the movie?

There's a pretty small file (a .rar that contains a .pdf) I want to download on Megaupload. The download keeps timing out after a few seconds and doesn't start from where it leaves off when I reattempt to download it. I'd like to know if there's a web service that will grab that file off of Megaupload and move it to another downloading site (since I've always had this problem with MU). TIA! [more inside]

Throughput, download speed, bandwidth, or something else -- which of these am I trying to say? I can download a huge file, topping speeds of around 140 KB/s. Is 140 KB/s my maximum download speed? And isn't that speed the same for all information I can receive, or just file transfers? [more inside]

I often download documentaries, and generally love them, and frequently feel like I want to give back to the director.
Monetarily-wise, that is, as perhaps I didn't pay for them.
What do you think of a service that allowed for paypal or such donation to individual directors? Could it work?
Alternately, directors of small films could set up a link on their websites, and one could spread the idea memetically.
I'm not looking to cash in on this, just to get feedback on an idea of how to assuage my guilt and help support those who make films worthy of support.

I know speaking about AOL is not eCool, but ....it seems that AOL e-mails are delivered more frequently if I'm actually, actively doing something with AOL (e.g., sending e-mails, or using their web browser--which I don't do, but). Am I imagining this, and if not, is there any way to defeat what seems to be AOL's way of managing resources?
