I know this is a very nice problem to have. However: if you are someone who loves the work you do, how do you deal with the inevitable slow periods? I have a job that is very challenging, fast-paced, and genuinely helps people. It is also often very stressful. I love my job. About two or three times a year, though, conditions will shift and all at once I may have a week or two that is considerably less busy. During this time period, I find myself to be quite irritable. A day or two of catching up on errands or sleep and I am ready to be back to the regular pace. Four or five days in, I am very impatient and cranky. [more inside]
I know this is an obscure and perhaps overly geeky question, but I'm rereading the Richard Adams novel, and just got through the part where the original warren is destroyed. Since the destruction is (movingly) told from the rabbit perspective, it is hard to imagine what the men are actually doing and why. Anyone care to speculate?
I don't have access to a center-agitator-free washing machine. Should I put my down coat in a delicates bag and put it in a top loading washer on the delicates cycle or hand wash it in my sink? [more inside]
After thinking I had major sinus problems for the past year, I now think I'm allergic to down and/or wool. (Based on intense facial pain, headache and congestion for the entire day after sleeping with those beddiings, and none without- I just did a personal 3 day experiment). However, I did allergy tests this year and they came up negative. Can you get specific testing for these items? Has anyone experienced this? Do allergies really just appear at 'a certain age'? If so, can anyone recommend a good allergist in NYC?
After a minor argument grew into a very stressful situation for both of us today, my boyfriend and I finally figured out a few things that have been contributing to a destructive pattern of behavior (basically, my emotions stress him out, he shuts down, I become more frustrated because he is unavailable to me). At first I felt empowered by our breakthroughs. Now I feel discouraged. Please help. [more inside]

I wanted to get these IKEA slippers but I didn't get around to it before they went out of stock at my local IKEA. Where can I buy a similar pair of thick pillowy or quilted machine washable slippers online? Down would be nice but cotton/poly is OK, too.
I'm looking for a women's down coat that's longer than my hips but not down to my knees. Ideally it has a hood without a fur (fake or otherwise) trim. And it needs to be available in size 18ish. Where should I look that I haven't already? [more inside]
What is it called when a word (or short phrase) is written in such a way that when reading it one way it says one thing, but then when you flip it upside down it reads something else (or even maybe the same thing)? The "reads different upside" is based upon how it is written (ie. how the letters are formed, creative scripting and connecting of letters, etc), not the letters (ie. the letter "O" reads the same upside down as right side up). I would love to have a ton of examples of this type of thing. [more inside]

Last year, I bought a $20 synthetic MYSA STRA (warmth rate 1) comforter from IKEA. It fits perfectly inside my duvet, but it became a lumpy mess the first time it was washed. Granted, I only wash the comforter a few times a year, but still... it's a lumpy mess. I'm tempted to try the down MYSA VETE comforter, but I'm worried it'll also become a lumpy mess after one wash. I've never owned a down comforter before. Surely some of you own it. I'd appreciate any thoughts. Is it worth $90? [more inside]
So I'm feeling miserable a lot lately. What do you do when you're feeling bad, to cheer yourself up? Restriction: Must be something I can do alone.
Can't take the cold Northeast and wonder if Charleston would work? My husband and I recently moved from Los Angeles to the Eastern shore of Ct. for a variety of reasons mainly cost of living and seeking a closer knit community. Now that we have experienced a cold winter ( it's just starting!) we see that it isn't for us. Weather is a big deal and we thought we could handle it but the being stuck indoors, the layers of clothes, the desire to hibernate are all getting to us pretty quick. [more inside]
I didn't think it was going to be difficult to find a ladies quilted down vest in a subdued colour (in Toronto).
I would appreciate any help in finding a ladies quilted down vest in a subdued colour (in Toronto). How do I "read in" my in-laws on my childhood physical/verbal abuse? My wife's immediate family is very close and I spend a fair amount of time with them (I see some of them weekly and all of them at least once a month). One part of my life that I've only shared with my brother-in-law and his girlfriend (in a very generic way) is that I was sadistically abused by both of my parents for a good portion of my childhood. This has created a barrier between us and while I've only heard whispers about it from my wife, I know they sense that I don't give them much in terms of who I am and what I'm feeling. I've known them throughout my relationship with my wife which started over 16 years ago, so there's a lot of history there. [more inside]

When do you say 'going down to X' and when do you say 'going up to X' in the context of geography? Do you have a system? For example do you say going up when you going North? For example we are going up to Sydney from Melbourne. Or do you use the rough height of the places? [more inside]
I own this down alternative comforter. It causes me to wake up with sweaty legs, so I'm looking for a replacement. This article recommends that people in my situation should go with silk or cotton instead of down. Is there an advantage to do that over just getting a thinner down comforter? Note: my bedroom ranges from 62-65 at night.

My Wife is pregnant. We just completed the ultrasound test for Down Syndrome. We had a normal result for Nuchal Translucency (2.5mm for 13 weeks pregnancy). However the ultrasound did not detect the presence of a nasal bone. We are going for the CVS. Should I freak out? Does anyone have similar experience and how did it turn out?

Cleaning feather/down - I have several feather or down filled things (pillows, cushions, ski jacket, etc.) that over years have have various liquids spilled *into* them. Liquids like juice, pet urine, beer, gasoline, sweat, etc. (not all on the same item!). My point is these are not surface dirt things - this is stuff that seeps through the cover and into the feathers. I looking for a way to clean the feathers themselves. Is there a fluid that I can soak - say a cushion - in and it will clean the feathers inside? Or a vapor of some kind ? Or will just soapy water do the job if I can be sure to drying the insides properly? All and any advice please, especially on the pet urine soiled item - it'll have to go if I can't clean it 'deeply'. TIA
So I had a regular sized (full) feather bed, I'm real tall, I thought to take the feathers out of the bed and put them into a king sized duvet and -- Viola! A king sized feather comforter! A good plan. So I bought the duvet, dumped the feathers in, and the thing is warm. But now, feathers large and small are poking through, and poking ME, there's feathers everywhere, I look like a chicken coop landed on me. [more inside]
