Who wrote the donut song?

My Dad used to sing a song about donuts. I've never heard the original, but am keen to find it. Vague recollections of lyrics below. "Donutssss... I wonder if I can find some nice round donuts, the ones with the hole in the middle. Some like 'em round, some like 'em hot, some like them with sugar on top" ... then something like "slurp slurp slurp."

It's an old-timey jazz song, a version of which is attributed to Everett True here, but I'm sure the original is about 50 years older.

Thanks for your help.

Mmmm donuts

Why is it that any portrayal of police officers in movies, or television always include a love for donuts? Just a question that came up tonight that took my interest. Any suggestions why this association with cops and donuts exists?

Doughnut frying tips requested.

Deep-frying n00b asks: How do I keep a consistent temperature when making doughnuts? I've made doughnuts maybe three times. I'm using: a gas stove; a 6-qt stainless steel stockpot with an extra-thick base, possibly aluminum; your standard deep-frying thermometer; canola oil; and a quick, baking-powder-leavened recipe that is not rolled or refrigerated in advance - you drop the dough in by spoonfuls. I'd prefer not to buy any new equipment.

My main issue is keeping the oil at the right temperature. Is it just a matter of practice, or are there specific things I can do to keep things steady?

Doughnuts in Boiling Water

Doughnuts and boiling water. In the 1928 edition of The Boston Cooking-School Cook Book, a recipe called 'cheap doughnuts (without shortening)' has a bizarre method. "Remove from fat, using a two-tined fork, and pass quickly through water kept at the boiling-point."

Why would you do this? Is it to get the fat off the surface of the doughnut? But, wouldn't it make it soggy? The ingredients are pretty standard doughnutty things.

I have seen something like this used for bagels. But, doughnuts?
