I'd like to hook up a small raspberry pi project to my apartment's doorbell. I've taken the case off to take a look at the wiring and it looks pretty simple, but I have some questions about it; apart from some breadboard experiments I'm an complete newbie to electronics.

Where might I find a replacement (low-profile) doorbell transformer that is similar to
this? It is about the size of a Matchbox or Hot Wheels toy car and has FRONT, REAR and TRANS connectors. The replacement transformer I bought looks like
this, which is about the size of a tennis ball and has white, black and green wires, but no FRONT, REAR and TRANS connectors. Big chain hardware stores shrug their shoulders, lighting stores only carry the big TF I linked to, so where might someone go to find something like this, to fix an older doorbell?

You get home with two bags of groceries. Do you ring the doorbell so that your flatmate lets you in or do you drop your bags, fetch your keys and let yourself in?

Can someone buy a doorbell that plays those "chimes" that we hear as the dinner announcement on cruise ships?

2 family home, shared my myself and a friend of mine. I am in the second floor unit, he is in the first floor unit. Wireless Doorbells are put on one on top of the other, since that is where there is space. Should the second floor doorbell be on top because it is the top floor, or should the first floor doorbell be on top because it would be considered the first unit of the building?
