Our environmental non-profit in Portland, Oregon receives a small portion of its revenue from recurring (monthly) contributions drawn via direct deposit. Recently, the bank we used to administer this account was acquired by another institution and started charging over a hundred bucks per month just to keep the account open. We shut the account down but are still looking for a reasonable alternative. If at all possible we'd like to avoid paying high administrative costs for the service and processing payments manually (since we'd most likely have to keep donors' account numbers in the office). I'm open to new ideas, and thanks in advance!

Dear Ask Me, I have been growing my hair for 3 years, with a goal of donating to wigs for kids (gets wigs to young people with permanent hair loss, as in alopecia, and burn victims), this year I topped their requirement for a foot in length; I want your tips of ensuring the best possible preservation of the hair. I have kept it maintained, but I am hoping there is a "final stretch" treatment that will make it in top shape for donating (not necessarily 'shine', or looks, but strength, and fortitude). Mr. Leezie and I are seriously considering donating our remaining frozen embryo from an IVF cycle to an infertile couple through an open adoption. I'm looking for any experiences that anyone has had donating embryos, or receiving them. What are some of the things that we should be thinking about and planning for? Besides the obvious result of our child possibly being out there in the world, what are some ramifications of this decision?

I have a gas stove in good condition that I want to get rid of. Salvation Army's donation pickup line in my area (Boston) never answers my calls and never returns my messages. What other options do I have? Also, I was told by the stove salesman that selling the stove wasn't a good idea because I'd be liable if the purchaser hooked it up wrong and poisoned or exploded themselves. Is this true, or was it just FUD?
I am working with a non-profit co-op that would like to take payments from its members online. However, the co-op is not a 501(c)(3) organization, but has a very small budget and can't afford to shell out for a merchant account and all the associated widgets. They already tried PayPal and their account got "restricted" there because PayPal wants a 501(c)(3) letter. Are there any other choices? [more inside]
I'm in hotels all the time (about 16 nights a month), and it just occurred to me that those little bottles of shampoo and stuff could go to a better cause than just hanging in the room after I leave. Should I donate them to a homeless shelter or some other organization, or would they rather just have a check? Any specific places that are in need of toiletry supplies?
