Are there any organizations I can donate to or help with that are devoted to cleaning up the messes we made in Afghanistan and Iraq? I keep seeing news of American and allied bombings accidentally killing children and civilians, and it seems like all these require something more than just an "oopsie!" or indifferent silence.

Within the last couple of months (and I'm really leaning towards more recently than that) I read an article that said if you're asking for donations to or fundraising for a charity, a little psychological trick is to tell people they don't have to donate. This would make them more likely to actually donate. I could have sworn it was on Lifehacker, but I can't find it anywhere, not even in a general Google search. Can you find it please?

My mother retired and has been making quilts at an amazing pace. She can make all sizes. She also knits and crochets blankets. She has plenty of fabric/yarn, but nobody to give her quilts to. Does anybody know a specific group, WITH CONTACT INFORMATION, that she can donate them to in Maryland, the USA, or internationally?

I've got a '98 Subaru Legacy Outback with 138k miles that I need to get rid of. It runs, but would need a fair amount of work done to continue running for long. It is safe to drive, but I wouldn't want to take it on a long trip. Trying to determine the best option: Selling, donating, or junking. In Philadelphia.

What to do with old laptops? I have one 13 year old Dell Latitude, doesn't turn on, probably useless (?) and a 4 or 5 year old Inspiron1505, still works okay, should have utility for someone. I'd like to know how to best dispose of the old one, and best securely wipe/possibly donate the more recent one. Are these appropriate/feasible goals? I have a ceramic drill bit if drilling through hard drives is required, and I live in a city, so I expect I'd have a range of options if things need to be done.
Thanks in advance for your help! Any and all replies are appreciated.

What's the name of the website where artists can have an idea that they don't have time to do themselves? I forgot to bookmark it. Ie. I have a really good band name idea, but don't have time to do the work so I donate the right for someone to use the idea for a year.

Any suggestions for a good food bank or food pantry in the north or west San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles? We're going to see lots of grapefruit and avocado from our trees this year, and I'd like to donate it to needy folks. Google is not a big help.

My wife wants to know if there are any groups in the New York City area that involve school-age children and bicycle mechanics. The point of the question is we have an old Dyno Mooneyes cruiser bike in great shape with a broken rear fender -- it would actually have to be welded to be reconnected. We'd like to donate it, and she thinks some kids might get a kick out of fixing it up, especially if they're into low-rider or other fancy-pants souped-up types of bike. (It's heavy, so she's not into the idea of shipping it anywhere. We're in Westchester.) Thoughts? Suggestions? Recommendations?

A friend of ours is in deep financial (medical- wife died of cancer) trouble. Many friends have pooled money (cash and checks made to cash).
What is the best way to give it?
We are considering Cashier's check, Visa gift card, etc. Keep in mind, he is very proud, and we're afraid that he will not cash a pile of checks. (Also, avoiding tax implications would be nice.)
