What is the best thing to do with a box or two of old books? They're mostly paperback and mostly genre fiction (SciFi, Horror, Fantasy). The less work for me the better with the provision that I'd like the books to be read again if possible. [more inside]

We would like to contribute to an organization that is dedicated to alleviating global warming. Ideally a nonprofit but any organization that takes action in this direction would be fine. I'd prefer that it be something I could research online or find a rating such as those available on charitynavigator.com. Any ideas? Thank you!

Can a kidney be un- or re-donated?
A colleague donated a kidney to a friend today. If the friend's body rejects the kidney, can it be put back into its original owner? I'm guessing no, but I'm wondering why not.

I have an old-ish Mac (Dual G4/500) I'd like to donate to a worthy cause. What's my best bet for doing so, and making sure that it's a valid 501(c)3 company who can provide a receipt? Also, how do I determine its worth as a contribution? I'm in NYC, and I don't want to be bothered contacting individual places- is there a central bulletin board for this kind of thing?

Our office adopts a family and we're suppose to either give money or buy them items on the list they give us. They use the money collected to buy anything on the list that hasn't been bought. My question, is it better to donate money or buy things from the list? I'm going to spend the same amount of money either way, and I'd like to make what money I give work best. I know the HR department, and the women who run the program go out and buy the items at the end, it is not some faceless charity. They indicate no preference either way. [more inside]

Has anyone had any experience donating a car to a non-profit organization? I'm thinking of doing it to get the tax deduction rather than trying to sell it. I found a good site here which tells me how to do it. I'm more interested in stories from the tax side, is it easy?
