Please help me price this deal. Got a call from a company that specializies in rights clearances for television and feature films. They would like to use my domain as a backdrop in their story. While they have been short on what part the domain plays exact in their story, they did say "would like to use the website on a computer screen as set dressing in our upcoming motion picture" and "Production will create their own web design for the page with a still of one of our lead characters. We feel that this use would lend an authentic touch to our production. "
Any recommendations on how I should approach this? and the way to make this most profitable for me?

My friends have a webhosting account with Network Solutions. NetSol seems to be saying that you cannot point a .ca domain-name to that account. Is that really true? Are .Mac accounts compatible with .ca domains? If the answer to both is no, can you recommend a webhost for .ca domains? (They have already bought the domain.) [NB: I don't want to just use a page forwarder - that is, I want www.mysite.ca/blogs/newblog etc urls to work.] Thanks!

My university department has a dept.com as well as a dept.univ.edu domain. The .com is just a pointer to the .edu. dept.com is the top google result for searches on our name, but results for dept.univ.edu are buried many pages deep. Here is the problem: there is now a problem with registration of dept.com, so Google's links are not working. What can we do? Is it possible to have Google replace instances of one with another or something? [more inside]

My domain registrar has blocked access to my control panel which allows me to make configuration changes to my domain names (DNS server info, transfers, etc.). I have 12 domain names registered through this registrar. They use an "account" system so all of my domains can be configured from one control panel. However, even though 11 of my domains are paid-up and current, they have locked me out of my entire account control panel because of 1 unpaid domain. I am unable to do anything with all the other domains that I own which are paid-up. Does anyone know if blocking configuration access to the 11 other domains is okay per their accreditation agreement with ICANN? It seems odd. I have written ICANN, but it said it could be up to four days for a response - and I need in my Control Panel! BTW, in case you're wondering, the payment on the 1 domain is being disputed.

I have a blog at http://depravedlibrarian.blogspot.com (I've also registerd the domain and will eventually put up a forwarding page). I misstyped this in the location bar: http://depravedlibrarian.blogpsot.com and found that registrant for this site and all the other Amazingbiblestudies sites (I checked 3 other Blogger address) is the same registrant. While it's not exactly domain hijacking, what can I, or should I do about this? How else can I get the word out about this? Thanks for your suggestions.

What are the benefits and drawbacks of hosting blogging software on a domain separate from a blog's domain? The only advantage I see is that it keeps my blog's log files clear of my MovableType 3.11 installation, resulting in cleaner traffic reports. I see no disadvantages. Is it better to just make subdomain for the software installation?

How do you value a domain name? More specifically I am a member of a webmaster newsboard that has domain names for sale. When I inquired about a certain domain I was told the owner was looking in the $X,XXX range for it. Yet I don't see how a domain could be valued at that price range when I see sites with full content selling for less than that. Is a domain really that valuable anymore? I don't think it is. Yes a .com is better than a .net or .org or whatever, but to ask for $1,000+ for a domain is just kinda pricey I think when the domain hasn't been doing anything other than pointing to another url.

I have a friend who wants to set up a movable type based weblog on a new (yet to be registered/determined) domain. Are there any webhosts that offer some sort of movable type webhosting plan, that is one with movable type already installed? Alternately, any recommendations for movable type freindly webhosts would be appreciated.

I'm considering buying a domain, and setting up a personal site. This wouldn't be a problem, really, except that I've got over five years of content on my current personal site in various formats, and I don't want to repeat the mistakes of the past. What's the best very cheap web- and email-hosting provider? Most packages are geared for small business, but this is for a personal site, so the web-hosting part of it is secondary to my primary purpose of using a less generic domain name (hotmail/yahoo don't cut it).
What I want is a solid combination of reliable pop and webmail at a domain of my choosing, with ~50MB space, for less than $5/month. I'm currently considering doteasy.com and netfirms.com, and doteasy is winning but for the 20MB space they provide.

While shopping around for domain names/ registration, I continually come across "already owned" names that are generating generic pages on domain registration sites. ie: "dotster" or "buydomains.com". My question - is there a way to buy these obviously un-used domains? Am I supposed to contact the hosting page? Are these domains , in fact, for sale?

I'd like to get my own domain. I assume I'd pretty quickly get a cease-and-desist letter from these guys, and that I really wouldn't have a leg to stand on, legally, even though my site contents have nothing to do with their flagship product. Are my assumptions well founded?
