I want to buy an internet domain name that is expiring in 3 days. I though it would be a simple process, but looking into it, I was quickly overwhelmed. Here is the info on the current domain: Registrar: HOMESTEAD LIMITED DBA NAMEVAULT.COM / Whois Server: whois.namevault.com / Referral URL: http://www.namevault.com / Name Server: NS1.FASTPARK.NET / Name Server: NS2.FASTPARK.NET. Honestly, I don’t really understand this info but I think it may be important. can anyone offer me advice or point me to webpage with current info about this process? (A Google search turned up several posts but they’re all years old.) Thanks!

If you were selling a product at (fictional example) socialnetworkmarketing.com, would you buy facebookmarketing.com and twittermarketing.com to just redirect to socialnetworkmarketing.com?

One of my .co.uk domain names does not appear to have auto-renewed with GoDaddy. The UK body for domain names, nominet, are mailing me by email and regular post to warn me about this and since this week, have sent a pro forma invoice (£94) so that I can directly renew my domain and save having it suspended...

What is the best way to achieve a stable email address, one that is not at the mercy of merciless ISPs? Does one use a domain or would gmail or a similar service be better? If a domain is the answer what are the dos and don'ts, how much should one expect to pay, are there free ones and are domains really stable in the long run?

Thanks to your earlier
help, I have successfully ported my C# project over to the Mac. I have also ordered a new DSL line with a static IP from bway.net. What do I need to know in order to host my website, accessible via my TLD, on a PowerPC Mac mini running OS X 10.4? How can I be my own DNS and mail server? Without overshadowing that question, would it be smarter to think in terms of DynDNS for external DNS/mail services?

So, it appears that
x.com (paypal) and
z.com (Nissan) exist - but according to the specification, they are "reserved for future use"... How did this happen? Why are Nissan and PayPal excempt from the rules?

I am looking to create a domain name. I have researched the general rules for choosing a good name, but I am wondering if there is any research or any information out there on how to create a name (prefix and suffix examples maybe?) that are as phonetically unambiguous as possible. For example, woo.com could also be spelled wu.com, and I would want to create a name that avoids as many of these ambiguities as possible.
