Whine and cry, whine and cry. Repeat.

We have a whiny dog. We've tried everything and don't know what to do. He is 9, maybe older, a Border Collie mix who's probably got trauma in his past (the shelter found him by a dumpster with maggots in his fur), but no current medical problems that our vet was able to find. He has anxiety but takes meds for that. [more inside]

help me help my troubled pup

I recently rescued a 5 year old maltese-yorkie dog (here he is!) with some behavioral issues. I'm already working with a vet, but I'd like to hear other experiences. He's lived with me for about one month. [more inside]

Staying with a dog who suddenly lacks bowel control

While continuing a very lengthy house hunting process, we're staying with my parents and their 11 year old lab. The lab is a sweet dog, and I love her, but I'm having trouble dealing with her lack of bowel control, and us staying in the house seems to be making it worse. Has anyone dealt with this before? Roomie dogs are fighting consistently

I live with a person who has a dog that I like quit a bit. She's really friendly, well mannered, not many complaints. Another roomie moved in about 2 months ago with her own dog. Ever since moving in both dogs fight constantly. I don't know if you can assign fault, but the new dog often does a thing where it will bite at the old dog's neck until it responds. The old dog will sometimes steal food and chew toys from the new dog. This is nearly always play fighting, but sometimes they get carried away and seem to want to harm the other. If I'm home by myself yelling "Hey, assholes, stop it!" is enough to get them to stop for the rest of the day, and I can usually give a loud "Hey!" if I see them doing things that lead up to fighting. However, both other owners have a harder time getting them apart, and sometimes do things I think are counter productive. I don't want to tell them how to control their dogs, but it's really tiring to be living in the constant center of a dog fight. Should I take more active steps to discipline them while the owners are around, or should I just say "well, not my dog," and not intervene? [more inside]

Prozac for dogs, pros and cons?

Pet behaviorist says Prozac may be the way to go, but our vet isn't so sure. Does anyone have experience with Prozac for dogs? I'd like some insight. [more inside]

Dog Runs Like Crazy Inside for No Reason

So, we recently moved from a small apartment to a big apartment, about 3x size of the old one. Tiny dog has adjusted well, except for one thing: he runs around the house, to get from Point A to Point B. Walking no longer occurs. We'd really like him to walk like a civilized beast again, if possible. [more inside]

My dog is going after my cat and I don't know why. Help.

Google is next to useless on this question. I've looked and looked, but I'm getting nothing that addresses this directly. Our rescue dog, after nearly a year of peaceful living has started to attack my cat, and I have no idea what's causing it. [more inside]

Puppy Jekyll and Hyde

Our dog is decidedly more manic when left alone with me. Is it normal for dogs to behave very differently with two different caregivers? How can I make things better for her where I'm concerned? [more inside]

How can I get my dog to stop whining?

I love my dog Buddy, and he loves me. He loves everyone, really. But starting a few weeks ago he has become very vocally NEEDY. He will not stop whining, and it's driving us batty. Can you dog-trainer-types out there help me figure out how to help him chill out? [more inside]

Dog Experts, I Need You. *So* Much.

I need advice from people who are great at understanding canine behavior and solving related issues for what is a rather thorny (and potentially tragic, dog-health-wise) situation for this inexperienced dog owner. I'll make it brief, then tell the (much, much) longer story inside. We have a new rescue dog (our first dog; female, a little under 2 years old) who is just now beginning to feel really at ease and at home after being with us for a month, and all our efforts towards house training have finally paid off, and she is doing beautifully... But, we are going to have to take care of a friend's un-neutered young male dog for two-four weeks in our small apartment, and there are very many things that worry me a great deal, and I really need good advice. Nearly full explanation follows, and it's very long - so sorry! - but it's important stuff to me. Bear with, if at all possible. [more inside]
