My dog has a habit of taking a mouthful of her (dry) food from her bowl, walking a short distance away, and depositing it on the floor. Then she'll go back and finish the rest. Anyone know what causes this behavior? How can we train her not to do it?

I'm looking for tried and true recipes for dog treats. I want to show my neph-dogs some love this holiday season with some homemade treats or biscuits, but I'm not sure I trust random googling. Any recommendations for doggie cookbooks or recipes that your pups have enjoyed? (I would also accept cat treat recipes!)

Hello!
We are getting a Maltese puppy (12 weeks old) soon and I want to give him the best dog food there is. I've heard about Blue Buffalo, Science Diet and Wellness.

My 13-week-old puppy eats everything, and a lot of it. How can I teach him some taste discrimination? How can I figure out how much to feed him?

I'd like nutritional advice for homemade dog food and maybe treats, using easy-to-find ingredients. I haven't been able to find high quality commercial dog food where I live, so I make most of her food myself, but I would like to make her homemade food as healthy as I possibly can with the resources I have, which are somewhat limited. Current routine, and many(!) more details inside.

Can dogs eat beef bones? My dog loves them (the raw discarded sort from butchers or rib joints) but when I give him one he goes crazy, actually consuming the bone and digging into the marrow. It worries me, but I've heard the marrow is good for them. But every time I've given him one I've had to take it away because he just gets too crazy. I know they can't have chicken bones (obviously, ow!) but what are the risks of giving him a beef bone as an occasional primal treat, even if it means he'll likely chew the whole thing up?
