When we first got our dog, Brandy, we didn't even know she *could* bark because she never barked. Now that she's come to realize this is her forever home, she's bound and determined to let everyone and anyone know it, so she barks at
everything.

I super love my 4-year old German Shepherd, but his desire to work/have a purpose has not waned with age, and I feel like he would be so much happier in life if I could help him find that purpose. His favorite thing on earth is playing fetch, but I know I can give him more than that. Suggestions?

After doing tons of breed research and visiting shelters and rescues, I have finally found the write dog for me. I purchased a miniature dachshund from a reputable breeder in my hometown. She is only three weeks old right now, so I have five weeks to prepare for her arrival in my home. I do have a few questions that I hope Mefites can help me with.

My dog "chews" bed sheets. She leaves no holes, which is why I use quotation marks. She sits on the floor close to the bed and nibbles with her front teeth on the edge of the bed. She's done this for years; she's an eight year old pit bull. Does anyone know why she does this?

My adult dog lost a tooth a couple weeks ago after chewing on a Nylabone. I took the bone away, and was planning to make an appointment for cleaning/ scaling in a month or so, when I could afford it. Today I found another tooth and now I'm more worried that this is something that can't wait. Help please!

My dog is an incredibly vocal dog, in play. He growls like he crazy with humans playing tuggy or rough-housing, with other dogs he meets who he wants to play with or is playing with. It all sounds so fierce but it's not, he's just being playful (he's nearly 3). How do I deal with this on walks, when other dogs don't always figure out the playful part straight away, and other owners who basically call me a liar when I assure them he's friendly?

I'm convinced my dog is a racist. He dislikes dark-skinned African-Americans and Asians, up to and including barking and lunging at them. Strangely enough, he will not bother light-skinned African-Americans. The dog is an 18-month-old basenji-rat terrier-Italian greyhound mix who we got from a shelter last October. We know the dog originally came from Georgia, but don't know much about its origin otherwise. How do we deprogram a racist dog?

Two years ago, I rescued an older 10lbs shiba inu/chihuahua mix who has a lot of fur and overheats easily. We've already had a few hot days in Los Angeles this year, and I'm concerned about keeping him cool and healthy, especially since we've moved to a new house that gets a lot warmer during the day.

Does anyone know a good breeder for Maltese dogs in Iowa? Or even the Quad-Cities (Davenport/Bettendorf/Rock Island)?
Iowa has a lot of puppy mills and I don't want anything to do with them. I'm looking for a reputable breeder that cares about health and personality.
Thanks.

I adopted a dog a few years ago and now I'm considering the possibility of giving her up. I feel awful about it and I'm not sure what to do. Good reason for doing it: starting med school. Not sure if it's a good or bad reason: Boyfriend hates her. Really long, but if you can handle it, I'd love some insight.

I have a little female dog (10 lbs, about a year old) and a slightly larger male dog (20 lbs, about 3 years old). The female wants to play with the male most of the time. The male has grown to ignore her other than maybe once a day, if that, when they have a chase/wrestling session. We've had them both for about two months, adopted separately.

My parents' nine year-old Old English Sheepdog is losing muscle in his hips, and having difficulty getting up. Their house also has predominantly wood flooring. I came across
Bark'n Boots Grip Trex Dog Boots during a Google search, and noticed one user's comments said they helped his dog's arthritis a great deal- has anyone else had similar success in using rubber-grip Dog Boots to help a large-breed dog experiencing difficulty in getting up? Aside from adding glucosamine supplements to his diet and placing floor mats on his favorite spots, what else can I do?
