We adopted a three-year-old special-needs pooch from the pound. We thought he was a rottweiler at the time, but now we don't know. We love him and want to know more about his provenance so we can train him better. (pics provided) [more inside]

My husband and I adopted a shelter dog last week, who we absolutely adore. When we were looking at her I asked one of the workers if they knew what kind of dog she was and they said no....just a mutt. My curiosity is getting the best of me though, and I would like to see if anyone might have some insight into what kind of breeds she might be. Pictures are here
3 photos included and she is the bigger dog in photo 1. She's about 2 years old so I'm assuming she's fully grown, also slightly under weight. As for her height, her head is about hip height (I'm 5'5"). So please someone satisfy my curiosity about our newest baby and tell me what kind of pup could she be?

I'd like to get a dog. I think a small breed would be best based on my specific situation and I have only had past experience with large breeds. Can you provide some guidance about the housebreaking difficulties I'm reading about everywhere? [more inside]

Alex Albrecht is the host of a weekly web-show called Diggnation. He owns a dog that is sometimes on camera during the show. I'm trying to determine what breed she is likely to be. [more inside]

Help me choose a new dog. I've been looking at different breeds and have come up empty. Here's my list of things to consider. Please ask if there is more that you think is relevant.
We have kids from infant to 7.
We have 1 middle-aged cat.
We have a suitable yard that I don't want destroyed.
I love the size and look of border collies.
I love the look of irish setters.
I love the look of bassets and beagles.
Central Iowa, but dog would sleep indoors.
Exercise is a daily walk.
Simply trained; no complex tricks, just sit, stay, heel, fetch.

Doggy folk, your best guess about this breed/mix, please? Photos: 1
. She is two years old, weighs around 27 pounds, and is about 17 inches tall. I don't know much more than that. I haven't met the young lady yet, so I can't tell you much about temperament, etc., except she's supposed to be very sweet, loves the loving, not barky. [more inside]

I heard that you can send a sample of your dog's DNA out to be tested to determine breed. I have a pound mutt who I would love to know the mix before she passes. Anyone know if such a service exists?
