What was the name of this BBC documentary? It was broadcast sometime around 2000. It was about how Britain has changed post-WWII, dwelling on rail closures due to the
Beeching Axe, the construction of the motorways, and the subsequent death of the 'traditional' rural Britain. Its tone was pretty melancholic, and it was (to me) quite a moving piece.

Asking for a friend: "A few years ago I saw a documentary about an African Muslim tribe. They were notable because the men cover their faces while the women do not. The only other thing I remember is that the men participate in a ceremony where they adorn themselves to the extreme (paint, beads etc) and line up for the women to chose. There is also apparently a custom where men will abduct wives from another tribe. The location might have been Mali but I'm really not sure. Can anyone identify this group?"

Help me help my friend remember the title of a movie. (Or documentary?) It starts out with a voiceover over a dark screen - and the voiceover is interrupted by someone saying that voiceovers are lame (or something) and they should cut it out. And the voiceover-over-dark-screen ends. The movie (or documentary?) then progresses in a similar manner, being "edited" in that way, as they go along. Some well-known actors or director was involved. Also, it may have been filmed by a cast or crew member the same time they were filming some big-budget movie. Er, and that's about all I know.

in '97 or so I saw a documentary about the crew that was stranded aboard MIR when the big political change in Russia occurred around 1990. It was titled something like 'Man out of time,' may have been made by a Czech director, and had as its' central thesis the idea that the guy who was stuck up there while the Soviet Union became Russia was a time traveler. What the hell is the exact name of this flick?

Let's say I want to film an amateur, feature-length documentary. One can assume I'd use a digital camera for relative cheapness and expediency, but which cameras are good enough to do a professional-looking job? I'd be on a very tight budget. This does not take into account the sound equipment, but perhaps you could also comment on that?
