We (the royal we) have been watching Wild China recently. It's a 6 part nature documentary that's also a bit of a travelogue. What we like about it--they go to a place not usually covered by Public TV nature docs and mix in explorations of the human culture there as well as geographic and biological subjects. What else is like this? What should we watch next? [more inside]
I'm trying to identify a BBC Radio 4 documentary I heard within the last week or two. It was about a French woman who creates experiences to communicate science and technology ideas. Examples included building a chair that shook and moved as a simulation of a rocket launch, and trying to reproduce the sound of walking and driving on moon dust. It ended with a friend of hers at NASA reading a recommendation letter to support her application to become an astronaut. [more inside]
I've heard this audio track on many BBC documentaries over the past few months, including multiple unconnected Panorama episodes and most recently on Britain's Favourite Supermarket Foods. It seems an audio engineer is crushing on this track quite heavily, and now my brain is demanding to hear the whole thing and will replay it for me ad nauseam until it does. I've tried running it through SoundHound and Shazam to no avail, so I figure it might be from a production audio library instead of an actual song. Does anyone know the title and composer of this piece, and more to the point, where I might obtain a copy?
In Michael Palin's "Around the World in 80 Days", there's a shot of a building with an interesting sign. It says "EARTH SPACE SCIENCE ART FACT FICTION FANTASY". [more inside]
According to this story in the Guardian, a BBC documentary about the London riots has been banned by a judge in England. However, the judgement also forbids revealing the judge's name, place or sitting, or more importantly, reasons for the banning. Can you help me find a leak of the judgement or any additional information, as I would like to know why it has been banned.

The FPP about 'Connections' made me think of another documentary series that I remember from the late 70s... but only vaguely. Can you identify this program? [more inside]

What was the name of this BBC documentary? It was broadcast sometime around 2000. It was about how Britain has changed post-WWII, dwelling on rail closures due to the Beeching Axe, the construction of the motorways, and the subsequent death of the 'traditional' rural Britain. Its tone was pretty melancholic, and it was (to me) quite a moving piece. [more inside]
