Who will give me the medicine drug?

I have crazy complicated medical stuff going on; started in August, went straight downhill. My most recent observation on the subject is that I've devolved from a rebellion into full scale anarchy. I've remarked frequently that I need Dr. House and his team to figure all this crap out. Where's the real-life Dr. House et al? If money were no object, if the doctors and travel and all of it was taken care of, where do I go? Preference given closer to central Kentucky, but start with who's the best. [more inside]

Chronic pain, unsympathetic job, still need to work. What can be done?

Asking for a friend filter: Friend is in their 20s. Just got halfway decent health insurance. Working at a retail store since summer of last year, job involves a lot of physical labor along with sales desk. They've been commended for good work a few times and have been told they've been doing well enough to be a keyholder soon, which would involve more hours and a raise, Recently got a merit raise. They've had chronic pain for a while, and circumstances are... [more inside]

Had an awful neurologist appt,, now what?

I recently saw a neurologist for my chronic cough, which has been diagnosed as neurogenic by a cough specialist. The appt was one of the worst medical experiences I've had. While I don't know if he did anything illegal, I'd like to report him somewhere. I'm also wondering if there's a way to get out of paying him. More inside. [more inside]

YANMD what could be going on here?

I have health insurance and a doctor but it’s been almost a year without figuring out the problem. I am not sure what else to do at this point. Long description of symptoms and tests below. I have been having intermittent episodes of lightheadedness. That is I feel weak and like I need to sit down (It’s not dizziness, the room is not spinning). It comes sometimes with nausea and seems to be aggravated by other things that make me feel ill - being too warm and being in stuffy spaces definitely can bring it on, being sleep deprived. It sometimes is accompanied by a pang around my stomach on the left. It makes me feel hot and ill and tired. [more inside]

I've posted about my adventures in health before. I have a clusterfuck of reflux symptoms but most tests--not all--are coming back normal. I met with a surgeon today, after my most recent test came back normal, and he said there was nothing they could do. I'm at a loss and wondering if any of it could be psychological. More inside. MRI/Spine finding, now what doctor do I talk to?

I am so utterly confused over what to do with my most recent medical news. I had an MRI about a week and a half ago. The results came back to indicate I had a thoracic disc issue. I need to talk to someone about what this means and don't know who. OB/GYN in Brooklyn/Manhattan for a nervous patient

Would you pay an extra $1K/yr to be able to choose your own doctors?

How much is it worth to you to have (relative) freedom of choice? Enrolling in health insurance and I'm debating between an HMO and a PPO (both under Blue Shield of CA). The difference in cost is roughly $1,000. I'm a 26 year old female but I'm not exactly "healthy". I have mysterious, debilitating, chronic joint pain all over (undiagnosed as of yet), a couple car accident-related injuries that flare up every now and then, and I need to get a pap smear every 3 months due to a recent scare. So acupuncturists, chiropractors, internists, rheumatologists, and gynecologists must all be within easy reach for me. [more inside]

Anyone else experience similar chronic illness symptoms?

Note: I am the patient. Describing the symptoms is pretty difficult task but I will try to do my best. The patient has not felt normal since sometime in October of 2013. Do doctors actually tell their patients they "cannot have children"?

In my life I've heard a number of stories from women who claim to have been told they could not have children... who then proceed to have children without intervention. Sometimes, this is an extremely welcome development, other times, very much the opposite. Saying something like "you will not be able to have children" with such certainty seems like an extremely irresponsible thing for a medical professional to say to a patient and so I have a bit of a hard time believing that doctors say it, at least in any case where it is at least physically possible for someone to conceive.
