I am in California and I am about to buy a car last registered in Michigan. The car is here. In Michigan, the plates follow the owner and therefore the car won't come with any plates. Once I take it to the DMV and register it, will they give me some kind of window sticker or something so I can drive the car around before my CA plates arrive in the mail?

How to recover a lost title for a scooter I would like to purchase from someone who got it in another state? I'm in Missouri, the title was in Illinois. Simplicity is a priority. I normally wouldn't hassle, but it is mint and the price is better than right. Additionally--I've heard rumor about some mysterious trick involving Arkansas--that just may make everything easier. Is it true that when I get a NY state non-driver ID card, they won't ask me to prove my street address? According to the DMV's list, my passport plus my social security card are enough to get me a state ID. Neither of those two things shows a street address (and I have no proof of my address, and I've never had a driver's license or non-driver ID). Does this mean I could just write my address (or for that matter, any NY state address!) on the form at the DMV?

How do you replace a lost learner's permit in California? I read on the DMV's website how to replace a lost license -- you have to make an appointment, pay some money and fill out a whole new application. But what about a lost learner's permit. If I have a photocopy of the original, can I drive with that? Or do I need to go to the DMV and obtain a new permit?

I'm worried about loosing my license. Two years ago I had an insurance lapse, and an accident. Because of it I did get my license revoked, had to pay a fortune to get a conditional license (allowed to drive to work and back for a year, basically), and I just got my normal driving privileges back over the summer. However, yesterday a letter from the DMV arrived saying they were doing the same thing, for the same incident, citing the same law, all over again. The NY DMV told me the first time was for driving without insurance, and this is for an accident without insurance. Since it's all from the same incident on the same day (same ticket, even), can they really do that?

Catch 22: I am applying to Social Security for disability. I need my birth certificate. To get my birth certificate from Pennsylvania, I need a valid government-issued ID bearing my current address (driver's license). To change my driver's license to my current address in South Carolina, I need my birth certificate (implemented 6/04 due to Patriot Act).

Has anyone run into this and figured out how to break the loop? I have already called Social Security, SC DMV and PA Vital Records AND talked to supervisors. Is my congressman next?

Is it possible in this interweb thingie to do a search on DMV information? I know there's a trend with certain bars where they will scan the barcode on your driver's license, and bring up your photo/DOB/etc. to prevent underage drinking...so obviously the information is considered public. I'm thinking specifically of a query using either driver's license number or your vehicle tag number.
