I want to learn how to personally repair a Canon 5D with an internal power problem. What resources should I look into in order develop this skill set? I do not care that this is silly, uneconomical idea. I am also well aware of the fact that developing this skill set will not be overnight.

It is hot in LA, and we were just gifted with a window-unit air conditioner! Hurrah! We have bars on all our windows! Boo! We've rigged up a very rickety looking system and it works, but...I feel like we might be setting ourselves up for disaster?

How do I replace a blown woofer in a
Spica TC-60 loudspeaker? The
datasheet is here. I am generally capable, but don't know anything about building/repairing speakers. Can I get away with replacing just the one? Is there any danger of damaging the crossover (whatever that is)? The very nice guy from
Madisound recommended a
ScanSpeak replacement but how do I know if it will fit and/or work properly? If I'm reading the datasheet correctly, the original seems to be 180mm in diameter, and the replacement he recommended 170mm - is this a good idea? How can I tell if there's anything else I should try? What, if anything, do I seem to be overlooking? Thank you!

I'm looking for ideas on ways to setup an informal neighborhood CCTV /cam enabled security system. Something like a flikr pool with wifi connected cameras taking snapshots/continuous street view. Ideally some kind of low cost DIY package that could be informally setup by a group of neighbors.

What kind of sander should I get to sand a variety of household projects? This weekend, I’ll be sanding the untreated pine interior of some fixed cupboards and shelves, with lots of tight, awkward corners. I'll also be sanding back spakfilla on masonry walls where I’ve filled in nail holes. I’m sanding so I can paint. Later on (in a few months) I might sand down some wood furniture. I don’t think I’ll use the sander for any exterior work. What kind of sander should I get AskMe – and why?

I'm looking to install roll up bamboo blinds on a very wide, but short, length of windows. It would be very expensive to order them to spec, and I'm looking into making my own. The mechanism is very basic, and I imagine the material is very cheap. I just can't find shades on their own, not pre-assembled.

The living quarters are a little run down. I am wondering if there is any information on how to strip it down to the frame and if there are any examples of rebuilding a new structure using modern materials?

I used to see advertisements for a plastic guard/doohickey to allow one to trim one's own hairline in the back (with electric clippers) and create a straight, even line. It was basically a piece of plastic you place against your hair/head, and then you'd clip hair on your neck up until that piece of plastic. It was *not* something that attaches to clippers in any way. What are these called, and where can I buy one?
