I noticed that we've been going through kind of insane amounts of the Trader Joe's Greek-style yogurt recently. Since I'm already spending a small fortune on the stuff, I'd like to just try making my own. Any tips, recommendations, absolutely-best-yogurt-making devices EVAR? [more inside]
Tiled kitchen counters - they get dirty and gross and I hate them. But I'm renting so I can't tear them out. Hope me! [more inside]
I'd like to do something like this to make some counter space in my kitchen. Can I use an IKEA countertop instead of cut-to-measure wood? [more inside]
I hope to install side drawer slides on my kitchen drawers (I've been unhappy with undermount slides), but the enclosing cabinet doesn't have much clearance. Do I try to cut grooves in the drawers, or enlarge the holes in the housing? [more inside]
I need a product exactly like this slim rolling pantry shelf, to hold canned goods and spices in the small space next to my refrigerator. Difficulty level: No hammer. [more inside]
The hot water pressure in my kitchen faucet is suddenly reduced. It remains fine in the rest of the house. What should I check? [more inside]
Our underhung kitchen sink detached itself from the countertop this afternoon - can I repair this myself? How? [more inside]
My tiled kitchen floor seeps water about 2 feet from the sink when we run the faucet. Please help me think through possible questions for the plumber and keep me from freaking out that this will cost thousands of dollars to fix. [more inside]
Help us figure out how to cover up or replace this god awful kitchen floor. We just purchased a farmhouse that was renovated in the mid 50s. The mudroom and kitchen have 9" asphalt tiles that are all coming up (so not level), and on top of that, the prior owner used these rooms as a kennel for his incontinent daschund. [more inside]
I have a few old glass bottles which I've cleaned, de-labeled, and given airtight cork tops. They're attractive bottles, about 750ml each with narrow tops, and I'd like a practical way to show them off ideally in the kitchen. I already used one to infuse olive oil and other to hold my dried dried beans rather than leaving them tied up in the pantry. What else can do with them?

I have a digital kitchen scale on which the LCD has crapped out. By pressing on different parts of the ribbon cable connecting the LCD to the circuit board, I've determined that there are multiple shorts or shoddy connections on the cable. There doesn't seem to be an easy way to fix it, so I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas for ways I can repurpose it for a fun electronics project. I have some basic electronics knowledge and soldering experience.
Need help deciding on tile for our new kitchen backsplash! We recently moved into a renovated house, and it already has these granite countertops. I'm not a huge fan of the color or strong veining, but they're new and we don't have the money to replace them. Our cabinets are currently dark brown, though we might paint them a light grey or white in the next year or so. What kind of tile or marble should we use on our backsplash? Or should we just paint it another color with somewhat washable paint? We cook lots and there are already quite a few marks above the stove and around the sink. [more inside]
The hinge on our kitchen cabinets has come apart, and I don't know if I can repair it. Replacement is only $6 or so, but I'll have to wait on delivery. It's a salice hinge, and there are 2 pieces, one on the door and one on the cabinet. There's some linkage that hooks the two pieces together, but I didn't install them so I have no idea how they fit together. Here is a picture of a similar hinge, with an annotation of where the separation has happened. Anyone familiar with salice hinges? Anything I can do, or should I just replace and be done?
Should we lay a tile border around our sink so we don't ruin our new birch countertops? If so, what do you wish you had known about tiling before undertaking your first project? [more inside]
DIY Seltzer: We love seltzer/sparkling water at my house. We buy lots of it from the store. This seems wasteful. I've seen other questions asking about CO2 etc, but I'm interested in knowing what your experience has been with certain vendors/equipment. [more inside]
I can't repair our icemaker because nothing seems to be wrong with it, with the glaring exception that it does not make any ice. [more inside]
As I've become more and more interested in cooking my satisfaction with my electric inductive cooktop has gone proportionately down. I scored an awesome deal on a used gas cooktop on Craigslist and now I need to hook it up. I'm fairly handy, if not very experienced, but my brother-in-law will be helping and he's very competent. Please, no advice to hire a professional. I've researched the safety aspect of this and I'm confident that we can handle this safely. [more inside]

I'm thinking of building my own kitchen counter-tops from concrete. I have some how-to books and have talked to a friend who is doing it as well, but thought I'd put the question out to AskMefi. What has been your experience? Any tips or tricks? Any special materials or sealers? Thanks!
My kitchen sink is very slow to drain. The pipes are clear and the garbage disposal is new. When I run the disposal, all the water/other stuff in the sink drains out without too much trouble. Is there some way to adjust the spinning element in the disposal to make sure the drain holes inside it are fully open? [more inside]
I prefer cooking with gas over electric and would like to replace the electric range that came with my house with a new one. But I've also got high vaulted ceilings, so I'm thinking downdraft is the only way to make a hood work. Anyone ever do this kind of upgrade before? [more inside] [more inside]
