How to construct a stage platform to reduce footstep noise / bass?

Historically I have not been an incredibly handy person, but I currently find myself in the process of DIY building a few modular stage platforms from 2x4s and 3/4" plywood which will be clamped together to serve as a stage for a blackbox theatre space that I run (used for improv, sketch and stand-up comedy). Does anyone have any construction tips or recommendations to dampen the noise from footsteps? [more inside]

Sanding a floor

It's time to sand and varnish the floor in the front room, ground floor. We'll be replacing a few worn out floorboards but we're not totally confident about the best way to fill the gaps between boards. Some people say use resin, some say use a sawdust/pva mix, some say use filler, some say use wood fillets. The floorboards are 1" thick tongue and groove, solid pine. Any good suggestions? Refinishing Hardwood Floors

I'm gearing up to re-finish my hardwood floors this spring. My question is about stains and polyurethanes. Can I use an oil-based stain with a water-based poly coating over it? I can't seem to find any water-based stains, and I want to be able to put multiple coats of the poly down, and I only have about a week to do this (2 small rooms), so I need to take into consideration the quick drying times of the water-based finishes. The guy at the paint store said I could do the oil stain with the water poly as long as I let the floors cure first, but walked away from me when I asked him what that meant. Is a week enough time to sand and finish the floors of two rooms?

Hardwood floors

Anyone know anything about refinishing hardwood floors? I discovered really nice hardwood under the ugly tile that covers the floors of my house, but there's a few areas where spills seeped through, and the wood has bleached out. [more inside] [more inside]
