Advice for a first time user of a Diva cup

I bought a Diva Cup and I'm about to use it for the first time. Is there any piece of advice you can give me along the lines of "I wish someone had told me this before I started using one...." I read most of the AskMe posts on Keepers and Diva Cups before I finally decided to get my very own. I also know about the Livejournal community, where I know there's tons of information (and I'll be slowly going through it).
I'd still love it if the mentrual cup users here can pass on some basic advice or tips. Info on inserting it, taking it out, clean up, travel, etc.

Specifically, I bought the small size Diva Cup. I haven't tried to do anything with it yet.

Ironically, I lost my Keeper.

LadyFilter: Can menstrual cups be purchased in retail stores? (More specifically, in Los Angeles?) I'm visiting family for Easter, and I forgot to bring my Keeper with me. I'll suck it up and use tampons for a few days if I have to, but I'd really prefer to buy a spare menstrual cup. As far as I know, though, the Keeper is only available online. Do any stores in Southern California sell something similar?

I have tried Instead, and I found them to be less than ideal.

Soft Cup vs. Diva Cup

I bought the Instead soft cup so I could have sex during my period--but upon inserting, I find it hard to believe that the man is not going to be able to feel the plastic ring. Gentleman--can you feel it? Ladies, am I inserting it wrong? Would the Diva Cup be less feel-able for him?

Let's hope this doesn't jinx it.

Why would using a menstrual cup make periods shorter? To the squeamish: this question, shockingly, contains details about menstruation. I have lost about a day off the end of my period since starting to use the Divacup six months ago. I'd say this was something I was making up, but other people on the web have observed it too. I'm not complaining, but why would this be the case?

For background, I started using Nuvaring in January which took me from about a week to about five days of bleeding almost immediately. Then I started using Divacup around May (at which point my boyfriend remarked that I had delegated all my girly tasks to my vagina) and it seems like every period has been slightly shorter than the last. At this point I can take out my cup after the end of my third-and-a-half day or so and experience only minor spotting.

Again, I love this, but I can think of absolutely no reason why it would happen. Anyone else experienced this? Any medical types with thoughts on possible reasons?

Putting in the diva cup

Lady Mefites: If you use the keeper of the diva cup, can you give me advice on how to get it in? I purchased a diva cup (the smaller one) a few months ago and have tried on multiple occasions (I tend to forget about it when I'm not having my period) in various positions to put it in, but have actually never been able to get it in successfully. I don't think the diameter is the problem (if it was a, um, suitably-shaped object of the same diameter it would be fine), but the shape... So can you tell me how you find it easiest to put in? What position (even if its inconvenient away from home) is the best? Do you use one hand to hold your vaginal opening open? Do you tuck the lip of the cup in? So you aim towards the back (ass direction) and then in? Thanks a lot. I really wanna get away from disposables.

My Keeper has lost its shape. Should I replace it or get a DivaCup?

AskMeFemmes: Keeper and diva cup question. Details, unlike blood, inside. I have been using a keeper for about three years without any trouble. Over this time, it has gone slightly oval. I assumed that this is because my cunt is slightly oval. Now, however, it is leaking--quite a lot this last go-round. Is this due to ovality? Is there anything to do about it but buy a new one? Would getting the softer, silicone diva cup prevent this from happenening again?
