I want to indicate that something is close enough to smell, but I want to do so in a way that matches these examples: "in sight" for close enough to see, "in reach" for close enough to touch, and "in earshot" for close enough to hear. I keep thinking there must be a simple and obvious way to phrase it, but right now I'm drawing a blank.

Imagine I'm standing on a boat in the middle of the ocean with clear skies all around and good eyesight: how far is the surrounding horizon? And, bonus question, when I look up, how far away are the furthest clouds? (I assume it would depend on how high the clouds are but I'm still completely ignorant of how much difference that would make so any help would be great.)

Mapping question: I have a list of (imaginary) cities. I also know each city's as-the-crow-flies distance from every
other city on the list. Based on this data alone, I would like to create a (hypothetical) map that shows all of these cities in their proper locations. I recognize that that the map's "rotation" would be arbitrary based on where & how you start plotting, but it seems that you should be able to plot out the relationships between cities properly. Is there software that can help me do this?
