Can you help this complete newbie replace the dishwasher in my broken down old mobile home? The plumbing is, to put it kindly, non-standard, and I'm not sure how to proceed without flooding my dwelling.

My friend recently moved into an apartment, and after trying to use her dishwasher has found it doesn't work. She contacted the landlord who will send someone out, but they specify she will have to pay for it if it isn't considered normal wear and tear. How can she respond to the landlord with the least chance of having to pay?

We don't have the manual available for the dishwasher in our rented apartment, and it has two
mysterious buttons (in addition to
other controls that make sense to me). One is labelled "H", the other is labelled 45 (degrees) C. What do they do?

Several times over the past few months, glasses have come out of my dishwasher sliced into two pieces. The cut is always smooth, and I don't find any glass shards left over. This only happens with glasses--mugs, plates, etc, are entirely unharmed. What might be causing this?
