I want to make an online directory that allows me to simply post a large directory of listings featuring a photo, name, and short description (akin to how old year books looked, for example
). Is there an easy was to do this that avoids databases? [more inside]

I want to make some JPG files available to others on a web site, one each. An example application would be prom photos where I am sending the pic just to the subject, and don't particularly want other attendees browsing all the pics.
I'd like to avoid having users need to log in, sending them just a link.
I'd like to make it hard to browse other's pics.
I think a reasonable approach might be to store the file in a folder with a long, random name. That would make it hard for a casual browser to guess, but could be easily passed around as a link.
If someone guesses the URL it isn't a big deal, but I'd like to make it harder than just folder names incrementing by 1 or something equally trivial.
So how big is the namespace for a directory name (linux) and what length of string would be suitable? Is there a better way to achieve these ends or some drawback I'm not considering?

I'm thinking about starting an import business specialising in very high quality and hard to find products, particularly tools and machinery.
I'm having trouble finding good quality online directories that list manufacturers like Alibaba that target Europe.
Does anybody have any advice on finding products in Europe?
Thank you kindly

Despite the MTA's new "helpful" consolidation of all numbers into 511, I've found it's actually much more helpful, and fast, to dial the numbers directly - especially because disconnects mean going through the whole list again. However, when I updated my phone, I lost all the direct numbers to the bus depots and such. Where can I get them back? [more inside]

First things first: I'm not a stalker and I won't do anything illegal. I've found the person who is almost certainly my birthmother. I need her cell phone number. I believe it's an iPhone. I also have an iPhone, for what it's worth.
Please note: this question is not about whether it's a good idea to contact this person. Nor is it about whether I should contact her via an alternate method. [more inside]

Please recommend easy online solutions to transition our "Student Directory" from a printed booklet to an online applications that parents can log-in to. Bonus points for parents being able to update their information (but with moderation/approval), or add notes (such as "lives with Dad on weekends") This seems like something that would exist as an out-of-box application. Additional details inside. [more inside]

I am looking for a Fast Flatbed SMTP/Exchange integrated Scanner. It should work as a stand-alone device i.e. networkable (so not attached to a PC) and email scans ('scan to email' so digital copies of receipts can go into an expense system) and be easy to use. It should have SMTP/Exchange/AD integration completely so it should be possible to Email to multiple email addressess if necessary. Money is not an issue but it should have fast and responsive scan times. I am really looking for recommendations especially from people with experience with enterprise ready Flatbed scanners in SME business environments. Something sturdy and reliable. Thank you.

OS X: I want to batch print all the files in a source-code library. They are actionscript files, which means they are text files that all end in a .as extension. The files are in a complex directory structure (one root folder but files in multiple subfolders), and there are non .as files that I don't want printed. When the files print, I need some kind of separator ( spaces, asterisks, new page...) between each file. [more inside]

Simple need for autofilling a web page with a different set of variables each time.
Assuming I have a CSV of the user accounts I need to create, how can I create or find a script that will let me create new accounts by entering the CSV info into set fields (name, email, password), submitting and then automaticaly proceeding onto the next user account? This is for Active Directory account creation on a website through a Citrix Client, totally legitimate, not spamming.

I've been browsing through a website whose pages are set up to be viewed as indexes/directories with no HTML. Many of the files listed are image files, and I'd like to be able to see them without having to click on each one individually. Is there some kind of add-on or plugin that will automatically show thumbnails of all the images on the page or am I stuck clicking on each one?
