I need to make a PDF directory of magazines.

I have been given a long run of magazines to put online as PDFs. I'm currently scanning them and want to create a clean directory structure where I have the covers of the magazines as nice thumbnails, clicking on them gives you a modal with the cover and the table of contents and a download pdf button, and then you can download the individual issue if you click. Is there a free solution to this that doesn't require a larger brain than I possess? [more inside]

Looking for directory of Baltimore, MD private licensed OB/GYNS.

For work I’m trying to find a consolidated directory of all all privately owned licensed OB/GYNS in Baltimore MD. All I need is their practice name, physician name, practice address, phone number, and email if it’s included. I’d prefer to avoid going through pages and pages of Google or YellowPages search results if at all possible. I don’t work for an insurance company, so I don’t have access to this info. Many thanks.

Need a simple solution to a Wiki-style contact directory

I work in a medical clinic with a few other doctors, and we're trying to come up with a way to centralize our "favourites" when it comes to referrals -- which specialists do we usually refer to, where can patients go for physiotherapy, etc. I'm trying to find a simple way to implement this but so far not having a lot of success. Obfuscating folder names?

I want to make some JPG files available to others on a web site, one each. An example application would be prom photos where I am sending the pic just to the subject, and don't particularly want other attendees browsing all the pics. I'd like to avoid having users need to log in, sending them just a link. I'd like to make it hard to browse other's pics. I think a reasonable approach might be to store the file in a folder with a long, random name. That would make it hard for a casual browser to guess, but could be easily passed around as a link. If someone guesses the URL it isn't a big deal, but I'd like to make it harder than just folder names incrementing by 1 or something equally trivial. So how big is the namespace for a directory name (linux) and what length of string would be suitable? Is there a better way to achieve these ends or some drawback I'm not considering?

How can I find direct MTA numbers? [NYC-filter]

Despite the MTA's new "helpful" consolidation of all numbers into 511, I've found it's actually much more helpful, and fast, to dial the numbers directly - especially because disconnects mean going through the whole list again. However, when I updated my phone, I lost all the direct numbers to the bus depots and such. Where can I get them back? [more inside]

Need to get a person's cell phone number. It's probably an iPhone.

First things first: I'm not a stalker and I won't do anything illegal. I've found the person who is almost certainly my birthmother. I need her cell phone number. I believe it's an iPhone. I also have an iPhone, for what it's worth. Please note: this question is not about whether it's a good idea to contact this person. Nor is it about whether I should contact her via an alternate method. [more inside]

(Visibly) Secure, online directory solution?

Please recommend easy online solutions to transition our "Student Directory" from a printed booklet to an online applications that parents can log-in to. Bonus points for parents being able to update their information (but with moderation/approval), or add notes (such as "lives with Dad on weekends") This seems like something that would exist as an out-of-box application. Fast Flatbed Scanner with SMTP/Exchange integration

I am looking for a Fast Flatbed SMTP/Exchange integrated Scanner. It should work as a stand-alone device i.e. networkable (so not attached to a PC) and email scans ('scan to email' so digital copies of receipts can go into an expense system) and be easy to use. It should have SMTP/Exchange/AD integration completely so it should be possible to Email to multiple email addressess if necessary. Money is not an issue but it should have fast and responsive scan times. I am really looking for recommendations especially from people with experience with enterprise ready Flatbed scanners in SME business environments. Something sturdy and reliable. Thank you.

Help me batch print text files on the Mac

OS X: I want to batch print all the files in a source-code library. They are actionscript files, which means they are text files that all end in a .as extension. The files are in a complex directory structure (one root folder but files in multiple subfolders), and there are non .as files that I don't want printed. When the files print, I need some kind of separator ( spaces, asterisks, new page...) between each file. [more inside]

There's only so much clicking I want to do in order to see 100+ pictures.

I've been browsing through a website whose pages are set up to be viewed as indexes/directories with no HTML. Many of the files listed are image files, and I'd like to be able to see them without having to click on each one individually. Is there some kind of add-on or plugin that will automatically show thumbnails of all the images on the page or am I stuck clicking on each one?
